Product Description

Product Description

Sindy was introduced at the beginning of the "Swinging Sixties" in 1962, along with a range of fashion-conscious clothes, and went on to become the best-selling teenage fashion doll in Great Britain. There is hardly a girl in Britain who has not possessed a Sindy doll at some time in her life, Sindy's popularity having no barriers of social status or class. Accompanied by her boyfriend Paul and kid sister Patch, the dolls' clothes originated from designers such as Mary Quant, Hardy Amies and latterly, David and Elizabeth Emmanuel. The author traces the history of Sindy's development, and the text, together with numerous illustrations, aims to provide an informative reference both for collectors and those interested in fashions and lifestyles of the 1960s and 1970s. Colette Mansell, herself a doll collector and dollmaker, has also written "The Collector's Guide to British Dolls".

this books is lavishly embellished with many colour photos. it has good details on all the sindy products made in the time period, often enough accompanied by their picture and of course dates.

perfect reference material for collectors of sindy paraphernalia but also a greatly interesting read for any sindy fans. i was bought this book as a child and loved to read all about sindy and how she developed from the-girl-next-door into a top selling brand.

at just under 300 pages -plenty to keep you occupied for ages with a good read.

Great book 1 Sep 1999

This is a great book for Sindy collectors . As a fan of Sindy and having a lot of her fashions, furniture etc plus over 20 dolls from various years I find it invaluable and the best resource available. Would love to hear from other collectors
A great book, well documented and illustrated 22 May 1999

I am a collector of Sindy doll paraphernalia and I found Colette's book to be well documented and superbly illustrated. Where photos and illustrations are unavailable, written descriptions are clear enough to identify items. The only fault I found, was 1 year (1978) in the history of the Sindy doll is missing from this book. I have already submitted copies of the catalogue for this year to her publishing house. Thank you Colette for a wonderful book. For me it is the ultimate, make that only, Sindy Doll Collector's book.
