Book Description

The History of the Kings of Britain, by Geoffrey of Manmouth, with introduction by J. A. Giles. Illustrated with 10 unique illustrations.

The Historia Regum Britanniae (English: The History of the Kings of Britain) is a pseudohistorical account of British history, written around 1136 by Geoffrey of Monmouth. It chronicles the lives of the kings of the Britons in a chronological narrative spanning a time of two thousand years, beginning with the Trojans of Homer's Iliad founding the British nation and continuing until the Anglo-Saxons assumed control of Britain around the 7th century. It is one of the central pieces of the Matter of Britain.

Trying to be fair, it's a great read if you take the history 'with a pinch of salt'. Enjoy the book for what it is...but...

There are far too many spelling and typing errors on this kindle version for my liking and to be honest it spoilt the book for me. It starts with the introduction - the sheer number of mistakes even in that (not historical, I might add!) is infuriating. Do the people who create the ebooks from the originals not even bother to read what they produce?

It's an important and interesting book, but the quality really spoils this version. Either buy a better eversion, the physical book or just don't bother...

There are thousands and thousands of free kindle books out there - the errors in these are more than acceptable from the volunteers who do this for us all to benefit. Actually BUYING an ebook of such poor quality (even at under a quid) is really annoying.

Sorry...

Excellent reading for anyone who is interested in the early British history, book attempts with some sucess to show how we came to this island, one of the earliest written pieces on British History, a best seller in medieval Europe at the time.

As a history it is imperfect, but of its time. For its prose and the stories and as an inspiration for later authors it is superb.
