The Hindu Times was a great comeback single for Oasis - it's rocky, it's catchy, it's gritty, it has a great vocal, a great riff, and great lyrics. It is so different to everything on Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, and it is a song which is underrated, and should be firmly embedded amongst the oasis classics.
The DVD single is worth a buy for two reasons. Firstly, video footage of the Gallaghers is always entertainment of the highest order and the sections here are no different. Secondly, the demo version of The Hindu Times is, for me, a brilliant exposee of the Gallagher songwriting process. At demo stage, it is a sad and bitter tale of lost love ('the ghost that is your soul leaves me cold, babe'), and final release it is a screaming, uplifting crowd anthem ('cos God gave me a soul in your rock 'n' roll, babe').
Well worth the extra few quid...
