When the debut season of The Hills ended, Lauren had passed up the opportunity to work in Paris for the summer to live in a beach house with her vaguely Neanderthal-ish boyfriend Jason. Flash forward to the second season of MTV's hit reality series--which aired from January through April 2007. Lauren and Jason break up, and you can see the wistfulness in her eyes as her friend Whitney (who got the Paris gig after Lauren turned it down) talks about what an amazing summer she had. Though the conceit of this Laguna Beach spin-off was to have Lauren at its core, her friends are as instrumental to the drama as she is. There's Audrina, whom roomies Lauren and Heidi ostracize for no other reason than they can. As for Heidi, Lauren's supposed best friend, she cares more about fame and men than her friends. As entertaining as this 3-disc, 12-episode set is, this series also reveals the worst caricatures about mean girls and young women. They will gossip about whoever isn't around and will lie to their friends, apparently oblivious to the fact that they will be caught in their lies when the show airs on TV. And sadly, these girls fault each other--rather than their cheating men--for their tumultuous relationships.
If Lauren is the determined and good rich girl, Heidi is the manipulative bad seed. She scares a boyfriend into thinking she's pregnant to test how much he loves her and then maintains her innocence when he gets angry at her deception. She lies to Lauren about what another girl said. There are times you may empathize with her, but those few moments are negated by her stupidity when it comes to her slimy boyfriend Spencer, whose claim to fame is hanging around any place (and any one) where there is a camera crew. He even sets up Lauren with his one-dimensional friend Brody (son of Olympian Bruce Jenner) to ensure that he's assured of even more camera time. Spencer guilts Heidi into doing what he wants, but she is guilty of lacking a spine when it comes to standing up to him. Spencer actually is an honorary mean girl, cattier and more jealous than any of the women on the show. Last season's finale left viewers wondering whether Lauren would work towards her future and go to Paris, or remain in the past and live with Jason. The second year ends with another life-altering decision--this time for Heidi. Will she move in with Spencer, whom she has already told that she is too young to make such a commitment, or will she remain as Lauren's roomie and BFF? There is a champagne toast and pizza celebration for a pair of roommates in the final episode that will make most fans of the show very pleased. --Jae-Ha Kim
Synopsis
Lauren Conrad (LC) ditches the sun, sea, and sand of Laguna Beach and heads for The Hills in this glitzy spin-off of MTV's hit 'reality' show. Bunking up with her entertainingly ditsy roommate Heidi, LC is forced to grow up fast and deal with the very real pressures of adult life. Between professional and academic responsibilities--she attends fashion merchandising classes and takes on a demanding internship at Teen Vogue--LC has little time left for personal drama, yet she still manages to squeeze in some troubled romance with Laguna heartbreaker Jason. The Hills has an addictively stylish look that will no doubt appeal to fans of Laguna Beach , and the subject matter is a bit less catty thanks to its nice-girl lead and the absence of bad-girl Kristin Cavallari. This release contains every episode from the show's second series.

To begin with, I would like to say that I started watching The Hills on MTV because there was nothing else to my interest being shown on other channels. However, watching one episode, turned into watching two, then watching the whole 4 hour marathon! Since then I've been an avid fan and have purchased both the first and second series (adding to my ever-growing DVD collection!).
For anyone who was a fan of Laguna Beach, or fashion, or just likes to hear other people's lives and gossip, The Hills is definitely a must see series. The thing I liked most about the show, is that you don't have to watch it from the first episode to understand what is going on and the fact that the people featured are people who the viewers can relate to.
So if you want a lazy day in or just want some new viewing material, definitely watch this!

I love The Hills, i would say i am addicted! So this DVD was perfect for me. Even if you've seen the episodes already its still a good idea to buy the DVD set as they don't often show these ones on MTV, or if they do they don't show them in order so the storyline becomes very muddled. Bonus features are good, there are interviews, deleted scenes (alot of them) and other things. A great buy as it's pretty cheap on amazon, i've seen it on other places selling for £20/£25!!!

i love the hills, but the price of this s really good delivery takes about a week which is a bit slow but discs work fine and makes the time pass if youve got a 30 minute slot to fill.also great for picking up fashion types.

If you like American drama, you will love The Hills. Its entertaining, fast paced and you see the characters grow.

The Hills is absolutely fantasic, this was definatley worth buying and watching, it's funny and relatable. Lauren is a lovely girl and the LA lifestyle is so intriguing! Brilliant
