Wes Craven's original 1977 'The Hills Have Eyes' was an enjoyable film (though doesn't compare to the 2006 remake) and it did well in the box office so it is no wonder Wes Craven made 'The Hills Have Eyes Part 2'. There were a few good things about this film which are, unfortunately, out weighed by the bad things.
The plot is as follows - a group of young motorcyclists and their girlfriends head out into the New Mexico desert, heading to some races. We soon find out that this racing team is ran by Bobby Carter, a survivor from the first film. He decides not to got to the races as he has too many bad memories from what happened 8 years previously (which, in reality, means that the Wes Craven could not persuade the actor who plays Bobby to come back for the full movie). Also along for the ride is Bobby's girlfriend, Rachel. Soon the team realise that they are never going to make it in time to the races so they decide the take a shortcut - the same shortcut that the Carter family took. They inevitably break down and are stuck. They go in search of some fuel and find an old mine. Whilst there Rachel, who turns out to be Ruby from the first film, is attacked by Pluto, her brother, and is knocked out. When she comes round she tells the group what has happened. Despite the fact that a psychopathic cannibal is wandering around the place, attacking them, the rest of the group decide to go off seperately and start playing tricks on each other (as you would do!!) and, of course, get bumped off one by one by Pluto and his uncle, the aptly named Reaper.
First of all, there is no explaination as to why Pluto is alive after his throat was ripped out and he was killed by the dog in the first film. We get no explanation as to where the uncle is from and why we never saw him in the first movie. Also, the lead female character seems to be psychic because of the fact she is blind!! PMSL
Another bad point about the film is that it uses the exact same music from the 'Friday the 13th' sequels, which tends to be really annoying as I hated the music when it was in those films.
All in all a reasonably bad sequel, which Wes Craven himself admits was rubbish and that he only did it for the money. It does have some good points. The characters are quite enjoyable, despite being stupid and the lead actress, who plays the blind girl, isn't that bad an actress and isn't your usual "scream queen". I would say buy this if you can get it cheap and give it a go. But only if you have seen and enjoyed the first 'The Hills Have Eyes' and want to see a continuation of that story.
