Product Description

Keeping's illustrations are amongst the most powerful images ever to have appeared in children's literature. (Books for Keeps)

Product Description

The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor, And the highwayman came riding- Riding-riding- The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door. In Alfred Noyes's thrilling poem, charged with drama and tension, we ride with the highwayman and recoil from the terrible fate that befalls him and his sweetheart Bess, the landlord's daughter. The vivid imagery of the writing is matched by Charles Keeping's haunting illustrations which won him the Kate Greenaway Medal.

5.0 out of 5 stars GHOSTLY & WONDERFUL 2 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
We were taught this in the 1950 at home, and we all knew it off by heart, then when the film came out with Philip Friend as the highwayman, we all fell in love with him, this is such an unusual poem Alfred Noyes could write a good story, I just wish they would release the film again, buy this, you will love it, especially if you are a romantic like me, its so sad.
