The Highway Code Introduction

This new Kindle Version has been updated with the Table of Contents and functional black and white Pictures.

This Highway Code applies to England, Scotland and Wales. The Highway Code is essential
reading for everyone. The most vulnerable road users are pedestrians, particularly children, older or disabled people, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders. It is important that all road users are aware of the Code and are considerate towards each other. This applies to pedestrians as much as to drivers and riders.

Many of the rules in the Code are legal requirements, and if you disobey these rules you are committing a criminal offence. You may be fined, given penalty points on your licence or be disqualified from driving. In the most serious cases you may be sent to prison. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT’. In addition, the rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence. An explanation of the abbreviations can be found in 'The road user and the law'.
Although failure to comply with the other rules of the Code will not, in itself, cause a person to be prosecuted, The Highway Code may be used in evidence in any court proceedings under the Traffic Acts (see 'The road user and the law') to establish liability. This includes rules which use advisory wording such as ‘should/should not’ or ‘do/do not’.
Knowing and applying the rules contained in The Highway Code could significantly reduce road casualties. Cutting the number of deaths and injuries that occur on our roads every day is a responsibility we all share.

The Highway Code can help us discharge that responsibility. Further information on driving/riding techniques can be found in ‘The Official
DSA Guide to Driving - the essential skills’ and ‘The Official DSA Guide to Riding - the essential skills.’

Only official Highway Code published by the government is acceptable in court.
This is not a government published document.

Fairly hopeless 3 Feb 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The biggest problem with this Kindle version is a lack of Table of Contents. This leaves you moving through the book page-by-page or having to search for the section that you're looking for. I found this incredibly frustrating.

As someone else has mentioned, a number of the pictures just appear as black boxes which is annoying. The formatting of the text, section titles and tables are non-existent too.

Save your money - the direct.gov website has the whole Highway Code available on-line for free, including downloadable PDFs for signals, signs and markings. Or just buy the print version of the Highway Code - it's only a few pence more.

I'm a big fan of the Kindle, but poor execution of ebooks like this really annoys me. Frankly I'm amazed that Amazon has the cheek to charge anything at all for it.

worth the money just to check on the changes in the rules, which of course nobody follows anyway, still worth and browse now and then and to be amazed at how much its changed since i started driving in 1976, ( i think we still had chariots back then)

Wot can I say about this? well its gotta be THE essential book for all drivers!

I got mine just to refresh my memory on the rules of the road before I enter the Bus Driver Of The Year Competition 2011 but the Highway Code relates to ALL road users, from pedestrians to HGV drivers and everybody inbetween!

A must have for everybody!
