Book Description

25 Sep 2009
The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment is the must have book for females who are looking to connect to something other than their internet provider! Alice Grist jumps stilettos first into all things spiritual and conjures up an entertaining, witty and honest account of her search for Enlightenment. The High Heeled Guide brings an understanding of alternative spirituality to a new audience. It is spirituality for the sexy socialite, enlightenment for the lipgloss dependent and a crash course in serenity for the yummy mummy! Veering between the wildly faddish and fashionable to the freakier and less familiar, the High Heeled Guide sheds a pink and intelligent spotlight upon a diverse collection of spiritual options that well suit the modern Woman. An intriguing, informative and hilarious read for any Woman who knows deep in her worn down sole that there is more to life than cars, careers, kids and cocktails.

Product Description

Review

Grist explains her work as 'a modern Woman s introduction to a world of spirituality and alternative thought'. What it actually does is re-unite the modern, commercially afflicted female with the concepts, ideas, beliefs and practices of the Earth Mother within. Grist clearly explains that there is no need for ditching the comforts of home for a life of solitude in a damp cave far, far away in order to improve well-being and developing spiritual integrity. It can be as simple as a change of mind or heart, taking on one thing that resonates can lead to a myriad of improvements. This book goes a long way to bridge the gap between the 'land of confusion' and a place of infinite possibilities. --Kate Osborne, Editor, Kindred Spirit Magazine

The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment is a must-have for every modern gal who wants to learn how to `walk the path' with style, balance and grace. Alice Grist will show you how... with shed-loads of humour and heart. --Deborah Chamberlain, founder of Inspiration, School of Psychic and Spiritual Development

An enjoyable, light-hearted, first-hand account of spiritual experiences, from psychics and shamans, to crystals and Kabbalah. Alice gives us a fun, yet in-depth account of how she combines modern-day life with a spiritual path. --Katy Evans, editor, Soul and Spirit Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars sparkle with soul 20 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
Alice Grist's book 'The High Heeled Guide to Enlightenment' examines the spiritual practices that the author explored over the course of one year. It is not merely an eclectic collection of philosophies and procedures however, for Alice Grist actually experienced, struggled with and lived through these practices as she worked to turn her own - very real and twenty-first century - life around: and this is where the book's value lies. You see, Alice tells us that at the beginning of the year she was a burned-out, unhappy, lost young woman whose lip gloss may have been perfectly applied, but whose soul was crying out for a bit of TLC; however, as the writing makes clear, as the year progressed her soul really did begin to sparkle and Alice found... well... Alice!

I would say though, that if you are a veteran light-seeker this book may not be for you. But then again, maybe it is! For too many people, in my humble opinion, seem to use the spiritual path as a way of abnegating or rejecting everyday life, but Alice certainly doesn't make this mistake. On the contrary, with her rock-n-roll boyfriend and her love of chocolate, vino and kitten heels, Alice destroys the idea that a woman on the spiritual path has to resemble a compost heap. She is honest, sassy and wise. She manages to balance life and spirit in an admirable way. Her writing is lively and fun. And her conclusion, one year after allowing spirit into her life, is humbling. All I can say is, "Go girl!" and all the best for the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is no loafer. 19 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
Every great exploration begins with that first step...whether in open-toed sandals, snazzy running shoes or high heels. Very often it is the journeying that is crucial. Miss Grist invites us to consider her journey...not so much to decide forever to stay at any one of the places she visits (and there are a number of stops along her route from "angels to wicca"). But we are invited to consider the challenge of this personal, inner exploration. This challenge is not of Miss Grist's making but a common strand across all religions, philosophies and meditations..traditional or alternative.
Quite simply...there is a spiritual dimension to human life. This book does not suggest to readers that they must embrace or even look at any of the areas Miss Grist explored; rather, that to not search and discover our own personal, spiritual pathway might find us regretting and wondering forever "what is missing". If we trample all over any idea of a spiritual dimension in our lives then we may just be missing something really Amazing and Life Giving.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all women 13 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is not only funny and interesting but has really changed the way that I think about the world and my place in it. It has got me thinking about spirituality as although I have found the concept in the past fascinating I have never actually looked into it.

My favourite parts of the book were when the author Alise Grist actually took part in various spiritual activities like the sweat lodge and tried and tested them while still living a normal 30 something female life.

Alice Grist makes this book easy to relate too and the humour makes it addictive, it's the kind of book that you will really miss once you put it down... a must read for all women.
