Product Description

Review

"A fantastic treatment presented in a simple, practical, logical order for the patient and physician as well. One of my colleagues glanced through the book as it was sitting on my desk and said 'Hey, this is a life saver!' Here is a book that needed to be written."

John J. Duncan, M.D., Institute for Aerobics Research, Dallas, Texas

Should be required reading for everyone, especially those who have a familial history of high blood pressure.

First of all I would like to thank all those who wrote review earlier on this book on amazon.co.uk and amazon.com. It gave me motivation to buy and try the ideas in this book. God bless u all and the author ...

I am 31 year old with family strong history of blood pressure and diabetes. My father had a stroke at young age of 47 which he survived but untimately had another after 11 years which he could not survive. I was diaganosed stage 3 hypertension just recently which alarmed me because of my family history. I was asked by GP to modify my life style (quit smoking, eat healthy, exercise etc.). I have been exercising quiet regularly (at least 3 to 4 times a week cardiovascular exercise of moderat intensity - means more than 30 minutes) since years but had hardly any idea what healthy eating means, how much salt intake is recommended etc. My GP was surprised why I am getting such high blood pressure at young age as I am not overweight and exercise quiet regularly. I went through lots of tests which were OK but still my blood pressue was high even after quitting smoking and regular exercise. I was referred to Consultant who finally decided to put me on medication. In the mean while, I got hold of this marvellous book and discussed with my consultant whether it is safe to take high potassium diet (diet with high ratio of K/NA - Potassium / Sodium) as recommended in the book. My consultant was happy for me to take up the advise mentioned in the book. You will be surprised how this book transformed my life in just over a month. I used to have on average 190/115 blood pressure before starting medication and this book advise. Just after two weeks of taking this book advise and medication, my blood pressure was 110/70. I went to see my GP to discuss the blood test results which he advised to monitor the suitability of medication and he was surprised to see the results of my blood pressure. He asked me what have you done to yourself..hehehe. I said nothing but I have started taking high potassium diet. He cut my medication from 20 mg to 10 mg. Today I had appointment with my Consultant four weeks after I met my GP. My Consultant was surprised again to see my urine results of Potassium and Sodium. My blood pressure was 105/67 on 10 mg medication. He mentioned that 'you are text book case' hehehehe and congratulated me for working out such improvement. He also asked me to go for 5 mg of medicine instead of 10 mg from now onwards which is a great success in just one and half month time, would't you think so???

I would strongly recommend this book to any one who has family history of hypertension or some one suffering from this. Hypertension is very much cureable and God has given human body tremendous ability to heal given it is given proper nutrition. Please recommend this book to any one you know who has hypertension. I am thinking if my family had this book earlier, my father would have been alive. Please spread the word and save lives.

I have searched few food items in the supermarkets which are high in potassium and low in sodium. Those in the UK might find the list helpful.

1. Swiss Muesli, Soya Milk, Smoothies - Aldi Stores
2. Tesco Value Soya Milk (it is very low in sodium less than 1%)
3. Bread with brand name of NIMBLE, ASDA Pita Bread Garlic and Whole meal are good as they are low in sodium.
4. Take lots of fresh fruit and vegetables

All the best ....

This book is written by a biophysicist and medical doctor and the effect sodium has on cells in the body is described from physical principals that are scientifically proven. This is then augmented with compelling anthropological evidence and case studies. It makes extremely interesting reading and I got through it very quickly.

What you should know:

Lowering salt/sodium intake alone is of no use at all unless you can actually decrease the ratio of sodium to potassium that you eat.

High blood pressure is just one of the more visible symptoms caused by not getting enough potassium compared to sodium. If you eat too much salt then you can still be at high risk of heart disease and stroke even without having high blood pressure.

Blood pressure medicine can lower your blood pressure without significantly lowering your risk of heart disease and stroke (and in some cases increase the rates of mortality).

If you change your diet to get more potassium and less sodium, you can lower your blood pressure but more importantly avoid other problems such as insulin resistance/diabetes etc.

The published recommended daily amounts for salt are much too high and you should aim for much less.

I don't have high blood pressure and I read this book because I have family that do. I have now made changes to my diet and am recommeding the same to other healthy friends. Much better to do it before you have a problem as some of the effects of salt are irreversible if unchecked for too long (like hardening of arteries).

TH IS METHOD WORKS 28 Mar 2005

Format:Paperback
I managed to reduce my bp from 100 distolic average to around 80 in two weeks, I havn't even finished reading the book yet. If you have high bp, then this a must read book. The method is simple to put into practice and for me it worked. My wife is a nurse, and she can't believe the results. If you do want to give it a try, I suggest that you buy a good bp monitor, the British hypertension Society publishes a list of good models.

My heartfelt thanks to all the people who reviwed this book on amazon UK and the US site, your reviews gave me hope, and Dr. Moore you sorted my problem, thank you!

An interesting, but very American book with an incredible amount of detail. I got just as much detail from much smaller publications.
