2.0 out of 5 stars 2 is not always better than 1 15 Nov 2010
By Fleur
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
Two games for the price of one may seem like a good buy - but as neither of these "find the items" games are very good, even the odd puzzle thrown in for good measure failed to really hold my interest. Plus, each game was short - REALLY SHORT - and the stories made no real sense. All in all, very disappointing and frustrating - and you will need super-human eyesight for finding many of the items!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Oh Dear, I'm looking for what? 28 Nov 2010
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
These games are fairly standard examples of the hidden object genre, though the art work is definitely of a lower standard than some, but the truly awful bit is that who ever made these games sometimes doesn't seem to know what the objects are called, in one scene I spent ages looking for an 'easel' when I eventually gave up and hit 'hint' an artist's palette was pointed out as the object I was supposed to find! It is quite sometime since I played these and while I know that wasn't the only instance like that it is the one I remember. The game play is ok, the puzzles likewise but there are far better games out there than these I would suggest you spend your money on something superior to these, the Mystery Case Files games for example.

Haunted Hotel
Possibly one of the worst games I've played.
The HO drawings are well below par and some parts are bleached out with the effect of `daylight' through the window which makes items even more unclear.
Having to play childish `power up' games in between each `floor' and other silly games if you don't catch enough `power' is irritating beyond belief.
I just skipped the written pages that popped up - presumably they're supplied to provide a welcome respite to your eyes from the visually uncomfortable HO pictures.
The music is also a little boring and presume that is why odds bumps and creaks are sounded randomly - in order to keep you awake.
This is also a timed game with limited hints so if you do decide to waste your time and money on it then be sure to try and stay awake. You've been warned!

Haunted Hotel II
Way better than the 1st game.
Pictures are 100% better and clearer. There is no timer so you can take as long as you want to look for items (and you'll need it) or just to stare at the screen and enjoy the penmanship. Some of the items are extremely small and/or well hidden. With time, not to mention very good eyesight, most items can eventually be found. A lot of the items are to scale, such as spiders or flies, so it is very difficult to find them. Also the look of items is not generic i.e. an umbrella in one scene could be a partially opened ladies brolly and in another scene it could be a folded gent's brolly. The list of items to locate is rolling and it won't let you collect items not yet shown so you will probably have to revisit previous attempted selections until everything is found.
There are only 5 hints per picture so use them wisely.

2.0 out of 5 stars Neither game is good 14 Jan 2012

Two games on one disc, both installed quickly and worked without problems on a fairly low-spec computer running Windows Vista.

The first game is extremely repetitive. Lots of hidden objects to find, lots of revisiting the same 'rooms' (not that you have to do this yourself, you're taken there by a tedious - but thankfully short) animated lift, and a small number of repetitively used mini games. The animation is not good. There is a timer, so you can compete with other players for high scores. If you can be bothered with playing this again.

The second game has lots more animation, and you're forced to sit through some long-winded descriptions and a few badly animated cut scenes, as well as the end credit sequence. There's no repetition here as you don't return to the same 'room scene' ever. There are a couple of slightly more complicated mini games between 'levels'. There's no high score list.

The two games are definitely on the easy side of Hidden Object Games. Usually I don't see this as necessarily a bad thing: I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who has played Ravenshurst and its successors, but easier HOGs can be a good starting ground for children/beginners. However, in the case of these 2 games the grammar and vocabulary leave much to be desired - at times the items you're asked to search for have been wrongly labelled by the developers... which can make using these quite a frustrating experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring game 17 Oct 2012

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I have played a lot of hidden object games in the past. I am very sorry to say this was one of the most boring games I have ever played. Basically you go from room to room finding objects. In between you have to read this journal where all the action is being written about. You don't get involved in that part of it. Haunted Hotel 2 is a bit more interesting but still not very good.

2.0 out of 5 stars basic hidden objects game 21 July 2012

Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
well i am so glad i got the twin pack game as it makes it just about value for money. the first game is just so dull i can only manage half hour at a time, just hidden objects room after hidden objects room with a few very simple connecting games that take minutes to do. but the biggest problem is the story (or it would be if i knew what it was), its not that their is no story. the problem is the story is set out in links of aprox 3 book size pages that you have to read, infact this is more a hidden objects book than a game & if i wanted to read a story i would just buy a book. haunted hotel 2 is a little better but still more hidden object than the better point & click adventure/hidden objects crossover games like haunted halls, shiver or dire grove for e.g. which can be purchased for around the same price and are far more interesting to do.

It was not as good as I had hoped. I do not like timed hidden mystery games as having to complete in a certain time is annoying especially if you get interrupted.

2.0 out of 5 stars Older type of HO
This is an older type of Hidden object/adventure game, suitable for young players, as it's easy. The second part is a little better, but again for young players.
