‘Sparhawk is the best-realized hero in current fantasy
‘ Daily Telegraph

Product Description

By the author of the international bestseller, "The Shining Ones," the third volume in the Tamuli series. High-fantasy and adventure by a modern master in the tradition of Tolkein.
Abriel was strangely calm. "At last," he murmured, "a fitting opponent." And then he clapped down his visor, drew his shield before his body, and raised the sword he had carried with honor for over half a century. His unpalsied hand brandished the sword at the enormity still rising before him.
"For God and Arcium!" He roared his defiance, set himself, and charged directly into the face of Hell.

A superb climax to the Tamuli series. Sparhawk and friends meet several others whose peculiar talents are utilised to the utmost. Aphrael and Sephrenia confront a long-held hatred and make a startling discovery about Zalasta. The final confrontation between Bhelliom and Klael is superbly written, and there are several analogies to the Mallorean (viz The Child of Light and Dark). All in all a thoroughly entertaining book which I have read at least 4 times and will continue to derive great pleasure from!

Once again David Eddings has made the 3rd book of a Sparhawk Trilogy my absolute favourite.

The pace of this novel was brilliantly maintained all the way to the climax, and in the face of the difficult task of splitting the "Core Group" of 10 heroes into smaller parties. Rather than this becoming sluggish going over the same timescale with a different group, Eddings uses the chance to really develop the characters other than Sparhawk - I particularly like the relationship between Tynian and Ulath - so frequently referred to previously as "Moon-Faced, Powerfully Built" and "Blond-Braided" respectively in previous novels throughout the Elenium and Tamuli.

The only disappointment was the final showdown with Cyrgon - the Epiphany of Bhelliom's Child and duel with an Elder God seemed anti-climatic, and over all too quickly, especially when compared to the showdown with Azash in Zemoch from Sapphire Rose, The (Voyager Classics). This was made up for with the brilliantly hilarious Prologue, for once deviating from the "History Paper" of the previous 5 Sparhawk novels.

Definitely well worth reading, and yet frustrating that it is the only one of the 6 Sparhawk Novels not available on Kindle!
