Product Description

Review

"Anyone who cares about what people eat - not the trendy dish of the month, but about diet and attitude, food, and philosophy - will want to work through The Heretic's Feast." --Los Angeles Times --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

Given my job title, it will come as no surprise that my main interest lies in research methodology. This does not quite bracket me with the technical nerds, however, for I have written widely on the philosophy and practice of research, covering methods qualitative and quantitative, pure and applied, contemporaneous and historical. There is a common 'realist' thread underlying every word, albeit a modest, middle-range, empirically-rich kind of realism. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

a typical book by Colin Spencer: thoroughly documented, stretching time (from big apes to the web-surfing biped), distances (worldwide), and human mind (veg'ism is non-violence/health/ environmentally awareness/ ressource saving). You'll like this book if you like history, food, humanities. In fact, I find it so rich, informative but no-fuss that I'm translating it into French! I'm now on my way to veg'ism, though Spencer is no proselyte. A Must-have whether you're interested in diet, veg'ism, history, cooking etc... let me know what you think!

If there are books that everybody should read ,this is one of the books, 10000000000000000000000000% !
It was a bit difficult with the English and the information included ,as it is more on University level but on the other hand I am glad I have learned from it. This book deserves not 5, but 10 stars! Did I say I have been vegetarian for 20 years and now I am vegan and some of it I may owe to this book. I realsied that this is book for great minds and great people only who, it inspires you to bring the theory to practice.

Format: Paperback
I tried vegetarianism a few years ago, and this book was one of my "readers". It's a fascinating, well-written and erudite book, and kept me with my nose in the pages for an entire camping holiday in France! It didn't work for me, in that I soon started eating meat again and felt much better as a result, but that doesn't detract (for me) from its virtues as a classic and highly-readable book. Vegetarians will no doubt love it, as it confirms everything they believe, but non-veggies can just enjoy a great book that expands the mental horizons and teaches a lot about the human animal. Very persuasive (just not quite persuasive enough for me) and highly-recommended.
