The Herbal Bed is a magnificent script that takes the audience back to the summer of 1613 and gives a glimpse of the events that occurred involving the daughter of the most famous playwright in our history. The plot centres around Susanna Shakespeare, her family and acquaintances during a difficult time when the church still held a great deal of power and accusations of “carnal knowledge” were being cast at Mrs Shakespeare and a family friend. Brilliant writing, great script to perform and almost as enjoyable to read straight through like a novel.

Recommended by a friend, I sought this out.

And I'm grateful. This is sharp, insightful and clever theatre.

This is definitely on the list for production due to the engaging story, well told, with characters and themes that resonate today.
