Heard a track from this band on a film and checked into them further, glad I did. A great album and definitely worth having a listen.

from the NY Times 09/19/04 20 Sept. 2004
By Modern Man - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
On their new album, "The Heat Can Melt Your Brain" (Minty Fresh), Kevin and Anita Robinson present a brand of perfectly skewed pop that will appeal to Flaming Lips and Stereolab fans who want to cut a rug. Two highlights are the upbeat and criminally catchy "Free Nude Celebs" and "Business Casual," which display the duo's mastery of sonic density without clouding the songs underneath. The album's release comes just in time for the homecoming dance.

AMAZING! A treasure chest of fun and sound. 4 Nov. 2004
By Leah Pullem - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If you take the time to listen to The Heat Can Melt Your Brain thoroughly, you'll be handsomely rewarded. Underneath the layers of complex sound and innocent lyrics lies buried treasure. In less than an hour, Viva Voce takes you on a carefree excursion into their treasure chest of sound, barreling through a pop underbelly with soft sweeping waltzes, hip-hop and electronic southern-based rock.

Viva Voce takes ordinary-sounding instruments and makes them emerge sounding magical and exciting. Commanding guitar licks and slides, booming drums and rapid, calculated key strikes dominate the simple foundation of each song. Add into the equation hushed lyrics and gentle instrumental accents, and this equals a perfect combination of sound. By the third or fourth listen, layers such as the choir of kazoos and the gentle shake of sleigh bells blended into haunting reverberation of the saw become more evident.

Kevin and Anita, the husband/wife duo Viva Voce, take turns playing an array of instruments on this album, showcasing their versatility with each clap, hum of the kazoo, guitar riff and drum solo. From their kitchen, living room and hallways, layer upon layer of composition has been laid to form an elaborate self-recorded masterpiece.

I definitely feel like a pirate searching for buried treasure when I listen to this album. I've been in pursuit since the first listen, catching a new echo from Anita's angelic voice or a new celeste solo from Kevin one spin of the CD at a time. The Heat Can Melt Your Brain invites each eager listener to join in on this exciting hunt.

Great fun 17 May 2005

I'm new to Viva Voce's fan base, so this is actually the first album I got, but I will definitely be checking out their previous efforts. This record has a fantastic mix of imagery, trickery, and fun that is so sorely missing from so much music today. Get this record!

FANTASTIC!!! 16 Sept. 2004
By Sam - Published on Amazon.com

My top pick of 2004 so far! I'm a huge fan of Viva Voce & this album seemed to come out of nowhere. I wasn't expecting it to surpass last years Lovers, Lead the Way, but it did. And greatly so. I cant put my finger on what it is I love about this band but they are now my all time faves! A must have!
