More About the Author

Leigh Bale is an award-winning, multi-published novelist who won the prestigious RWA Golden Heart in 2006. More recently, she was a finalist for the 2011 Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence. She writes inspirational contemporary romance, romantic suspense and medieval romance. She is the daughter of a retired U.S. forest ranger, holds a B.A. in History with honors and loves grandkids, spending time with family, weeding the garden with her dog Sophie, and watching the little sagebrush lizards that live in her rock flowerbeds. Married in 1981 to the love of her life, Leigh and her professor husband now have two wonderful children and two grandchildren. But life has not always been rosy. In 1996, Leigh's seven year-old daughter was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. In the dark years that followed, God never abandoned them. After six surgeries, two hundred and eighty-four stitches, a year of chemo, and a myriad of other difficulties, Leigh's daughter is now a grown woman and considered less than 1% survivorship in the world for her type of tumor. Life is good! Truly the Lord has blessed Leigh's family. She now transfers the love and faith she's known into the characters of her stories. Readers who have their own trials can find respite within the uplifting message of Leigh's books. You can reach Leigh at P.O. Box 61381, Reno, Nevada 89506, or visit her website at

3.0 out of 5 stars Christian? 27 May 2013

This wasn't a bad read, but it is marketed under a "Christian" author. Simply be forewarned that there are no Christian themes, subtle or otherwise - unless you count the characters declaring once that they are Christians and then dropping the subject entirely. If you are looking for a romance story that doesn't depict explicit sex scenes then you will probably enjoy this book. However, there are some steamy moments that I would have liked to know about before downloading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Viking Romance 15 Mar 2012
By Kathy (Bookworm Nation) - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I think this is the first book about Vikings that I've read, and I loved it. Our main character's Kerstin and Jonas were both very likable. I really liked Kerstin, she is a fighter. I liked that she never gives up and even when surrounded by people who distrust her she still helps those in need. Jonas was great, definitely a great leading man. He and Kerstin are enemies and forced to marry, but they have amazing chemistry and it was great watching them banter and fight. I enjoyed the whole book, I thought it was well written and the characters really suck you in. I wasn't all that surprised by the twist at the end, but again still really enjoyed it. It has a great medieval feel to it and I loved the setting. I'm already sad it's over. Definitely one I will be re-reading.

It wasn't perfect and there were some things that kinda bugged me, but it was a fun read and gave me butterflies a couple times!

Content: Clean steam. I guess there were a couple love scenes that were a little steamy, w/o any real details and stayed on the clean side. Pretty vague.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! 19 April 2013

Really good book. Now one of my favorites. I like the fact that this author doesn't have to describe her sex scenes, she's more of a "fade to black" writer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Viking Era Tale 12 Feb 2011
By Love 2 Read Novels - Published on
This was a great viking era tale. Kerstin is a healer but she is known to everyone as the 'Witch of Moere' because she uses herbs. She is betrothed to one she loves but the King commands she marry Jonas, the Beast of Hawkscliffe, to ensure peace between their families so they may fight a common enemy. Though she greatly opposes the marriage she finally agrees. There is a strong attraction between Jonas and Kerstin but they don't trust each other. Kerstin believes he is cruel and wants to see her dead and Jonas believes Kerstin poisoned and killed his brother. Slowly but surely they begin to see each other in a different light. Jonas is kind when he could be cruel and Kerstin is helping his people. But there is a traitor in the group. When Kerstin finds out who it is she sets out to warn Jonas. But will she make it in time? and will they ever find peace in their marriage?

The Heart's Warrior was very engaging and kept me reading from start to finish. The characters were very well drawn and seemed natural to the story. I liked both Jonas and Kerstin. Jonas was a hulk of a man yet had a tender heart. Kerstin had fire and grit yet in her heart she really did want peace. There was a mystery concerning who killed Jonas' brother that you don't find out until the end. There is also a spot in the end that sucked the breath out of me. I loved it because it was unexpected. This would not be considered 'Christian Fiction' but it is what I would call "clean with an edge" (with the exception of a few words).

3.0 out of 5 stars Not A Bad Read 13 Aug 2013
By Ronnie - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you are looking for lots of steamy sex in your romance, this is not your book. Very good story, I enjoyed it. It had intrigue, a great plot and a story that flowed well. All of the characters were well rounded and definitely added to the story. Jonas comes on orders from the king to marry Kierstan ( a woman once promised to his brother who was poisoned) at her home before the ceremony could take place. Since then half her people and everyone else called her witch. Book could have been better, It took too long for Jonas to truly trust his new wife. This was a continual aggravation for me. They had their HEA eventually, but I felt they should have trusted each other sooner.
