Having seem this band in Inverness, I was keeping an eye out for news of any releases from Blackbud. This is the second EP I have seen of theirs, and like the first EP, I was not dissapointed at all by this release.
This EP is a fantastic way for a band to introduce themselves to a wide audience. Not only are the three songs all spectacularly listenable, they have a knack of getting right under your skin and into your head in the best possible way.
The three tracks are all wonderful songs that remind me a lot of Jeff Buckley. Although at the moment, heartbeat would be my favourite. The music has a very bluesy feel, but not so much that it becomes overdone. It is also very balanced between the guitar, vocals, bass and drums.
This EP is slightly stronger than their previous one (The Livewire EP.) But that is also a wonderful EP. Their music also seems to have a beauty to it which is not very common. To my ears, this is a quality that Hendrix, Buckley, and Randy Rhoads(among others) had. Any sound they make, however distorted or angry it is, has a beauty to it. This is what I hear in Blackbud. I await their album with baited breath.
