More About the Author

Sheffield-born writer, Michael J. Ward, was first introduced to the fantasy genre through the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks in the eighties. Now living in the Midlands, Michael divides his time between writing DestinyQuest novels, working freelance and playing - by his own admission - far too many video games.

A read you can really immerse yourself in. Great for those who miss their gaming days and find getting a group together tougher and tougher. A fitting sequel to Legion - a true adventure - I couldn't wait to finish but didn't want it to end.

I have been meaning to write a review of this one for awhile and am finally getting to it. I purchased it back when it first came out and I've had an absolutely wonderful time.

This is what the old fighting fantasy books should have been. No sudden dead ends, no auto-failures if you miss one particular choice, no searching for hours to find that one entry that will give you victory. The destiny quest books are exciting, well-written, and possessed of a depth I've never seen before in a game book. The story of Heart of Fire is twisted and complex, always keeping you guessing as to what will happen right up until the end, and the end does not disappoint. Each quest is a new adventure...or several new adventures...with unique enemies, puzzles, and treasure.

Grab your blade, ready your spells, and go off adventuring with the Destiny Quest books. You won't regret a moment of it. I, for one, am eagerly awaiting the soon-to-be-released third book in this series.

This is an adventure game with a high level of replayability.
Each paragraph of the story ends in choices. The player makes his choice and is directed to a different paragraph. The story cannot be read sequentially, but the several adventures in the book have multiplel paths and need not play out the same way twice. The game therefore can be played many times without coming to the same result.
