This book is soooo awesome!! It is very informative and has great alternatives to medicines! It also breaks it down for you as to what are the different benefits of each herb. Love this book just wish it came in spanish for my parents and aunt-they love reading about this stuff and would prefer to heal naturally as oppose to taking meds.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Ideas on Herbs, yet Beware of Advice+ 11 April 2010
By Magickal Merlin - Published on Amazon.com
This tome of herbs is an excellent review on alternative remedies. This is more of a historical review, rather than a guide on proper usage. It's great on introducing the multitude of herbs that have been used through the ages. There's a wide discussion of the various doctors who had experimented with the various herbs and what results they achieved.I would use this book ,only as a helper and not as an essential guide for dosages. Some herbs are toxic and deadly,in any dosage.People who are interested in herbal suppliments should always investigate the dangers of the the herbal dosages.Herbs will help most people.Yet,you should always consult a doctor or nurse, before any ingesting of any otc remedies from your town's herbal pharmacy. There has been a renewed interest in herbs,in recent years. It's all-natural and more people friendly, rather than alcohol/chemical treatments for various aliments.Green Tea and herbal teas are so much better than soda. Now,research is showing two soft drinks per week,is causing a seventy percept increase in pancreatic cancer. It's clear soda is a weaker than green tea.Saw palmetto will greatly reduce prostrate cancer, that seem to greater effect people,in their 50s.Prostrate cancer usually effects soda-drinkers,who eat processed meats and eat little fiber or vegetables.I liked this book for the good herbal ideas, yet it's weak on statistics and medical dosages. There is a multitude of herbal books around with interesting information, yet light on the medical side. This seems to be another one.Check out Dr.James Duke's herbal books for the most detailed information and quality information for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Major stepping stone in learning about healing herbs. 19 Oct 2012
By Oren Player - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought the book based on an article in Mother Earth News by Michael Castleman. I had been looking for a good source book for the who, what and when of herbs. This is it. The book offers up an amazing amount of history at the first part of the book which is very interesting. The body of the book gives indepth description of the herbs and their uses as well as any warnings. The one thing I would add to help with your effort to find teh herbs would be a good color picture book on herbs to allow you to identify the herbs in the wild. I have done this and now enjoy walking the woods looking for the wild growing herbs.

Good book, worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful source of info on herbs 18 April 2014
By John Beauvilliers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a very informative, easy to understand, and an excellent "dictionary" of herbs and their uses; pros and cons. Lots of info on how to use herbs, and even how to grow them. I am enjoying it, and using it regularly.
