Product Description

Product Description

"During the nineteenth century Willington Mill, near Wallsend gained an infamous reputation for being haunted. Bizarre noises, apparitions and poltergeist activity dogged the premises and were experienced by dozens of credible witnesses. The case attracted the interest of the country's leading psychical researchers of the time, but the mystery was never solved - until now. Using a wide variety of contemporary sources along with cutting-edge investigative techniques, Michael J. Hallowell and Darren W. Ritson have pieced together the true story of Willington Mill. As well as detailing the fascinating phenomena that occurred in the building, "The Haunting of Willington Mill" is at last able to offer an explanation for one of England's most enigmatic and puzzling hauntings. In this book, for the first time, the full truth about what occurred at that sleepy Tyneside village has been laid bare for all to see". (Colin Wilson).

Dull 18 April 2012
By THappy
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As an avid reader of books on true hauntings I purchased this one. I had previously read their other book The South Shields Poltergeist which I found very interesting. Unfortunately I can't say the same for this book. It has to be the dullest book I have ever had the misfortune to read. I skipped over large chunks of the book, and even then didn't make it to the end before I had to resign it to the book shelf out of fear it was stealing valuable time which I would never get back.

I would advise anyone to avoid this book at all costs (unless you are having difficulty sleeping, in which case you may find it useful as an aid to sleep).

Credulous or what? 23 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
Although this book contains some interesting historical material I wasn't familiar with (which redeems it somewhat), overall it has to be described as utter tosh.

The authors extrapolate from the wildest speculations to tell a story of their own fabrication, based largely on absurd parapsychological claptrap, which they regard as 'evidence'.

If you're looking for 'The Truth', as stated in the book's subtitle, you won't find it here.

This is particularly disappointing, of course, as the original story is still intriguing, and deserves some serious and intelligent research. Hopefully any renewed interest generated by this book will attract someone who can do the job properly.

The Haunting of Willington Mill is a book that is packed with some amazing information and facts that I was previously unaware of. The book sheds new light on what could have really happened in that sleepy little northern village all those years ago and the authors should be commended for their hard work and efforts. Granted, there is lots of speculation in the book but speculation is all you can offer after all these years, and the authors spell this out in the book. The first book of its kind, The Haunting of Willington Mill should be read by anyone interested in paranormal matters; and more to the point, read fully and completely before any unjust criticisms are made. With a very complimentary foreword by the legendary paranormalist and philosopher Colin Wilson (one of the few people that actually know what they are talking about) this book is a must for all paranormal enthusiasts and north easterners alike; Buy this book you wont be disappointed.
