Book Description

3 Dec 2009

THE NARROWS: Harry Bosch is adjusting to life in Las Vegas as a private investigator and as a new father. Then he gets a call from the widow of a friend who died recently. A friend who worked on the famous case tracking the killer known as The Poet, which makes his death doubly suspicious. Now Bosch is heading straight into the path of the most ruthless and inventive murderer he has ever encountered...

THE CLOSERS: Three years after leaving the LAPD, Harry is back, working with his former cop ally and partner, Kizmin Rider. Assigned to the LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit, Harry and Kiz are immediately thrown into a politically sensitive and dangerous case when a DNA match connects a white supremacist to the 1988 murder of a mixed race 16-year-old girl. But there are some people who want the case to remain unsolved...

ECHO PARK: In 1993, Harry Bosch was assigned the case of a missing person, Marie Gesto. The young woman was never found and the case has haunted Bosch ever since. Thirteen years later, a man accused of two heinous killings is willing to confess to several other murders, including that of Gesto. Bosch's whole being as a cop begins to crack when he comes to realise that he missed a clue that could have led him to the killer and prevented the nine murders that followed...

By Andy Edwards TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
If you're a Harry Bosch fan you'll probably have these anyway, so this is for new readers really.

Harry Bosch is a superb creation, and the stories woven around him are always credible, beautifully paced and plotted and Connelly is certainly among the best crime writers around today. This set brings together 3 of the later Bosch stories, and they are each to the usual high standard. "The Closers" covers Harrys' re-entry to the LAPD, picking up cold cases, and is probably the least satisfying of the 3, but "The Narrows" gathers the threads from a previous non-Bosch novel, and pits Harry against the the Poet, producing a very good plot as a result. "Echo Park" is a personal favourite of mine, and sees Harry back on familiar territory, with political intrigue and conflicts with superiors providing the spice as Harry pits his wits against a real villian.

While you can read each of these as a stand alone, Connolly has a habit of intertwining his characters, not only from the Bosch novels (Kiz Ryder in "The Closers" has worked with Harry before) but also from his other novels, so the experience would really be enhanced if you had at least read "The Poet" and "Blood Work", before you read "The Narrows" because you would have a better feel for the motivations of the characters.

My recommendation is to start with "The Black Echo", the first Bosch novel (the first 9 are available in 3 novel volumes ,The Harry Bosch Novels: Volume 1: The Black Echo, The Black Ice, The Concrete Blonde

5.0 out of 5 stars Bosch is best 9 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
If you enjoy a good Amreican detective , without any foolishness, then Bosh is best , and this trio of books are of the highest standard.Michael Connelly has the human touch, so that he bring Bosch very much to life and believable, besides being very readable. In my opinion Connelly has taken over from Raymond Chandler as the great American Detective writer.
