Book Description

15 Mar 2007
The 'Jump-jet' was the world's first vertical/short take-off and landing (VSTOL) operational jet aircraft. Developed using the revolutionary Pegasus engine, the Harrier has served the RAF and US Marine Corps well for over 30 years. Here, vividly told, is the fascinating story from tentative hovering by the Hawker P1127 in 1960 to today's frontline Harrier GR9 and AV-8B warplanes. A naval version, the Sea Harrier, entered service with the Royal Navy in 1979. Alongside the RAF Harrier it saw action in the Falklands War in 1982. More recently, Harriers have seen combat over Kosovo, Bosnia and Iraq. In the USA, a license-built version (the AV8-A/B) equips the US Marine Corps and is in service today in Iraq. Harriers also equip air forces in Spain and Thailand. This competitively priced, full colour hardback is packed with clear and accessible information and is the latest in a series including The Concorde Story and The Spitfire Story.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Harrier Story 17 Feb 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is another fighter plane book I bought for my dad as a Christmas present, and he also really enjoyed reading this one. The Harrier Story also contains a selection of photos of the plane and the people involved in the war effort, and the information about the Harrier is very detailed. Very highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as it could be 22 Oct 2013
Although this book gives a brief insight to the harriers history and development it could have gone into alot more detail about its history research and development. It gives some operational information but again i thought that could have been more detailed with more information. All in all a reasonable referance but not as detailed as i would have hoped

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book 8 Feb 2011
I bought this book for my son in law who is an Officer in the RAf for Christmas. The Harriers that the government have got rid of were what he was working on for the last few years and it was very sad for him and his men on the day they last flew in the skies! I bought him this book as a momentom to remind him of all the years he had spent with these planes but what I did not realise when he looked through it that his own squadron was in it!! He loved it and i would recommend this to anyone that has an interest in the Harrier and its history!

4.0 out of 5 stars nice little book 25 Jun 2013

For a book which is not much bigger than a postcard, it has a respectable amount of text and many good pictures. Well printed and bound.
I recommend it.
