More About the Author

Award winning British author Saskia Walker first dreamed of writing her own stories when she discovered a handful of romance novels stashed away in her school library. An avid reader, she lapped up the fun, the adventures, and the life-affirming emotion of these stories, but always felt dismay when the bedroom door closed the reader out. She vowed that if she ever had the chance to pursue her dream, all the passion would be right there on the page.

Saskia finally began writing seriously in the late 1990s. By that time she'd traveled the world, got herself a BA in Art History, a Masters in Literature and the Visual Arts, and she'd worked in all manner of diverse careers--but the stories in her head simply had to be written. Her first erotic short story was signed in '97 and since then she has had many novel and novella publications, and her work has appeared in over eighty anthologies including Best Women's Erotica, The Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica, and the Black lace Wicked Words series. Her erotica has also been featured in several international magazines including Cosmo, Penthouse, Bust, and Scarlet. Saskia writes across genres, but always with the passion right there on the page! Her novel, DOUBLE DARE, received the Passionate Plume award for the Best Contemporary Erotic Romance of 2006. RAMPANT was nominated for a 2010 RT Magazine Reviewers' Choice Award.

Saskia lives in the north of England--close to the beautiful, windswept landscape of the Yorkshire moors--with her real life hero, Mark. Mark supports her work through all its ups and downs, and somehow manages to keep her sane and grounded when fiction threatens to take over.

Book Description

It is a Dark Era, one when a lusty lass will do what she must to survive. Even if it means bartering flesh for a palmful of coins...

Forced to watch her mother burned at the stake and separated from her siblings in the aftermath, Jessie Taskill is similarly gifted, ripe with a powerful magic that must stay hidden. Until one night when she's accused by a rival, and Jessie finds herself behind prison walls with a roguish priest unlike any man of the cloth she has known.

In reality, Gregor Ramsay is as far from holy as the devil himself, but his promise of freedom in return for her services may be her salvation. Locked into a dubious agreement, Jessie resents his plan to have her seduce and ruin his lifelong enemy. But toying with Gregor's lust for her is enjoyable, and she agrees to be his pawn while secretly intending to use him just as he is using her.

Now, I'd just like to say I am so glad I've had the opportunity to read this! I have never ever given 5 stars to an erotic novel, I reserve such ratings for books that I deem to have more 'substance'. This usually means that there are at least two well-developed and interesting characters, that the plot is good and rounded off well (if it is a stand-alone novel), that it exceeds my expectations and gives me something that I never saw coming... well, erotica or not, this is exactly what this book gave me. It must be noted that this is so very much more than just sex (though there's plenty of that), the best comparison I can make is to Pretty Woman - you know, the movie with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere - this is basically a 19th century version of that story in many ways. Which is not even slightly a complaint, I love that film.

The two are very similar, this is the story about a 'harlot' (Jessie - which, incidentally, is one of my favourite songs) who is charged with witchcraft and sentenced to death. She is then rescued by a wealthy man (Gregor) who wishes to use her to seduce his enemy and infiltrate his enemy's estate. Gregor's attempts to tutor Jessie in the art of seducing his enemy become more than just your ordinary lessons; desire quickly flares between the two of them and this leads to more serious emotions arising. The two begin to have a mutual understanding of one another and note the strange similarities to be found between this wealthy man and this prostitute. To mention Pretty Woman once more, that film has the line that best describes how the relationship flourishes and how the two leading characters discover how alike they are: "You and I are such similar creatures, Vivian, we both screw people for money".

'The Harlot' is a compelling erotic historical romance, featuring a heroine who is raunchy and passionate and a hero who must discover himself and learn the futility of revenge. Saskia Walker's prose vividly sets each scene and her dialogue crackles with life. The love-making is lusty and always integral to the story. I really admired the heroine, Jessie, with her compassion and secret powers and her frank enjoyment of sex. The hero Gregor matches her in his animal magnetism and is flawed but sympathetic. I found myself wishing both of them well.

This story draws you in quickly with the tale of Jessie and her fiesty spirit.
You can't help but will her on in her quest with Gregor.
They are an unlikely duo or so it seems, but are the perfect partnership in "other activities" ;-).
I found myself drawn into the tale, feeling like a fly on the wall almost, which made this book almost impossible to put down.
A really good read! Thank you Saskia Walker!

Adult erotica, NOT Porn; now I've got nothing against porn, I absolutely love it; but good erotica can be just as entertaining and the fact that there's less "action" can actually be a good thing.

That's certainly the case with this book. There's just enough well written action to make it an excellent work of literature as well as a sweet, sticky, sweaty, sexy, steamy story that couples can enjoy together.
