Product Description

Imagine looking so different, that no one ever sits next to you on a bus. That's life for 17-year-old Orla, with a large red birthmark disfiguring half her face.

Then Orla meets Danny, an American boy who doesn't care at all about looks. But with a shocking past, Danny has scars of his own, only on the inside. Can these two friends help each other in a world which truly shows an ugly face?

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read 8 Nov 2013

A great book, with a pacey plot, a feisty heroine and a selection of well-drawn characters. Also sensitively and authentically tackles the issue of looking different in an image-conscious world, which makes it more than just a page turner. A book for both young adults and older readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping read 21 Feb 2014

I wan't quite sure what to expect with this, but once I started reading I got kind of hooked. The lead character, Orla, is very well drawn with intriguing depth, and the relationship between her and Danny was pulled off superbly. The action moves location during the book (don't want to give away any spoilers!) and when it does things get really exciting, building to an ending that I for one wasn't quite expecting. The best books always show a character developing or changing on some level, and that's certainly the case here.

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining, page turner. 21 Mar 2014

I loved the format and layout of this book. The short chapters and well spaced paragraphs meant it was easy to pick up and read a couple of pages at a time, there again I often found myself reading just a little bit more for this very same reason!

There is a fairly small cast of well written characters and I quickly found myself wanting to know what would happen next to each one as the story unfolded.

Well worth a read and I will definitely look out for more from this author.
