Review
Training to be happy? Can it possibly be done? Can listening to a CD actually make us feel more alive, solve our problems and lead to an inner state of joy? It sounds too good to be true, but what wouldn't we give to be able to do this! The Happiness Training Plan suggests that far from being a random process, we actually have some control over our lives, our health and our consciousness. Listening, relaxing and practising is all it takes to bring about profound and far reaching changes. --Pat Pilkington MBE, Co-Founder, Penny Brohn Cancer Care (formerly Bristol Cancer Help Centre)
Clearly presented, easy to follow and, more importantly, highly practical. I love the Happiness Training Plan CD and recommend it to both colleagues and patients. --Dr Mark Daykin, GP
A helpful, practical and easy to follow course for creating more happiness in our lives - it's nice to find something so down to earth and straightforward which suits the listener. --Liz Igoe, Psychotherapist

Product Description
The Happiness Training Plan is an audio, self-help programme with 12 simple, practical steps to greater happiness based on recent findings from positive psychology, the science of well-being. The good news from this young science is that it is possible to develop our capacity for happiness - around 40% is under voluntary control. Optimism can be learnt and positive emotions not only feel good, they do you good too - building resources and moving you towards a state of flourishing. Each track on the CD offers a practical lesson in mood improvement with the assurance that all the strategies have the backing of scientific research. Chris Johnstone and Miriam Akhtar are both pioneers of positive psychology, who use the science daily in their work. They have condensed what is known about increasing happiness into twelve easy-to-learn strategies, which not only draw on the science of well-being but also on their experience as practitioners and their own personal experiences of recovery from depression.
