Product Description

In the darkest corners of hypnotic control who can say what is and is not possible?

Eight women went obediently to their deaths with the Handshaker. Were they hypnotised?

When another victim commits suicide, hypnotist Alex Croft believes he has the answer. Then The Handshaker takes Croft’s girlfriend and the game changes.

A puppet dancing to killer’s tune, Croft is first the hunter, then in a dramatic turn of events, the hunted, running from the law, desperate to find this madman before he can kill again, brought face to face with his own mortality in a nerve-jangling finale.

The Handshaker: he takes them, he uses them, he murders them.

‘This is one compelling rollercoaster of a read’ Laurie Clayton, Kindle reader.

About the Author

A retired hypnotherapist and adult education teacher with a one-megaton sense of humour, David Robinson is a Yorkshireman from the outskirts of Manchester, northwest England, where he lives with his wife and a crazy Jack Russell Terrier named Joe (because he looks like a Joe). He writes in several genres under different pseudonyms, but his mainstay is crime and mystery. He published several novels with different publishers until, in 2011, he turned to self-publishing on the Kindle, putting out 15 titles. In January 2012 Crooked Cat Publishing picked up the first of his popular Sanford 3rd Age Club Mysteries, The Filey Connection. More titles in the series are due in the near future. He also produces darker, edgier thrillers, such as The Handshaker and Voices; titles which are aimed exclusively at an adult audience and which question the perceptions of reality. In a more light-hearted mood again, he turns out the occasional sci-fi or paranormal adventure and he has also published some non-fiction. As at March, 2012, he is working on more of the Sanford 3rd Age Club Mysteries and a sequel to The Handshaker. A serial killer is out there, targeting women, using them and when he's finished with them, he leaves them hanging...quite literally!

The police are at a loss as to who the Killer could be, despite the copious amounts of DNA he has quite happily left behind with each body. Not to mention the typewritten cryptic clues that have been ignored or dismissed.

When local 'retired' celebrity hypnotist 'Alex croft' receives one of these cryptic clues in his mail, he recognises the content to be 'out of the ordinary'.

On the advice of his girlfriend, Croft takes the note to the police and with his help; the police begin to develop a profile of the serial killer at large.

The profile that begins to emerge is significantly close to his own. When his girlfriend fails to return home from work, Croft also discovers that she never made it to work in the first place. Croft is immediately concerned for her safety. Fearing that she may have become another victim of the serial killer, Croft reports her disappearance to the police only to find that he is now the number one suspect.

He has to work quickly to prove his innocence and save his girlfriend from suffering the same fate of the previous victims. Victims of the man that has become known as 'The Handshaker'.

This is one compelling rollercoaster of a read.

From the very first page, David Robinson weaves spellbinding, strong imagery and research into this psychological crime thriller; effectively securing your attention by the throat, leading you kicking and screaming to the final page.

To say that I 'enjoyed' reading this book seems strange, given the subject matter, but I did. What's more, I enjoyed it for all the right reasons.

'The Handshaker' is a well written work of fiction, combining all the elements required by this particular genre with some hard hitting emotive imagery and solid research.

It has been quite a while since I have read a psychological crime thriller that has had me caught up in the plot so intensely as this one...Bravo.

I must admit to having become rather jaded with 'serial killers' of late, so this novel was a superb surprise. There is a fine line between being bombarded with technical information or feeling deprived of knowledge which would enhance your reading enjoyment. This author has hit the perfect balance thus enabling the reader to garner ultimate satisfaction with this novel regarding the subject of hypnotherapy. The structure, theme and plot are very well developed and different and kept my attention for the whole book. There was no arid spot in the middle as so often is the case with this genre; no formulaic prose and no worn cliches or platitudes. The characters are human, believable and for the most, likeable; their frailties and strengths are exposed through concise, tight dialogue, which gives them depth and also enhances the pace. The writers style is easy, fluid and confident - nothing contrived here - and a joy to read. I connected emotionally with these characters and actually felt their pain, frustration and horror. I also felt intense anger when two of the main characters did something with which, I did not agree! I actually sat for a good few minutes questioning their actions and had to come to the conclusion that under intense stress, do any of us know what we would do or how we would find solace? I'm still wondering about that...The killer was hideous, but clever - a perfect psychopath, who kept very well hidden until...

An excellent, exciting read, but I won't be consulting a hypnotherapist any time in the near future, thank you.

The Handshaker is quite simply a brilliant read. Right from the start author David Robinson grabs you by the shirt collar and drags you, kicking and screaming, into the world of a sadistic, clinical serial killer who will stop at nothing to have his ultimate revenge.
The story unfolds at a lightning pace as celebrity hypnotist 'Alex croft' is faced with realising his worst nightmares and finds him self in a race against time to save, not only the woman he loves, but his own reputation along the way.
The book is filled with high tension, very dark images and intrigue as Croft gets dragged deeper and deeper into the depraved world of a mad man who the police seem to have no chance of ever catching.
The characters are full of life, the dialogue believable and the emotions Croft goes through are brilliantly captured by a writer on top of his game. It all builds to a satisfyingly terrifying ending that will leave you gasping for breath on the edge of your seat.
