Format:Paperback
This practical and informative handbook is honest, even painfully so - pointing out, for example, that the most important factor in the development of a child with autism is the degree of learning difficulties they have, and that no parent or teacher can do anything to alter this. But it is also positive - in particular, the updated case histories in this revised edition give an impressive picture of how much progress is possible even for children with substantial disabilities.

The authors, both of whom have many years hands-on experience with children with autism, give a solid account of the autistic spectrum and a good guide to various educational resources and methods, while taking a tough-minded and pragmatic attitude to many media-hyped "miracle cures".

Their dry (and sometimes witty) attitude does not obscure their clear fondness and evident care for the children with they write about.
