About the Author
Daniel Postgate is the illustrator of many children’s books including The Hairy Toe, Smelly Bill and The Richest Crocodile in the World. He lives in Kent. When not illustrating, Daniel loves to either cook or sleep. (Both of which he's very good at!)

I first heard about this book via my two year old daughter, who kept whispering "Where's my hairy toe?" and "creak...creak...". I gathered that these odd whispers were relating to her sessions at her nursery, so I looked up "Hairy toe" on amazon and she immediately jumped up and down shouting "Hairy toe book!". I ordered it and she has wanted to read it every night since, I thought she would tire of it after a week, that was six weeks ago. A scary book for pre- schooler's, and about time too. Not a book for squeemish parents!

Finding scary stories suitable for a toddler is very difficult. Well look no further this book is perfect. The story is about a hairy monster who's missing his hairy toe which the old lady has, so he goes to her house saying "Where's my hairy Toe!!!, "Who's got my hairy toe"!! He creeps up the stairs and into her bedroom and the old lady scrooches under the covers. Its brilliantly illustrated and written in such a way that you can read it with great gusto. My daughter chases me around the house saying "wher's my hairy toe" If you like this book try 'Class Two at the Zoo' another scary story for toddlers (although not as scary as this one).

I bought this book to read to my Year 1 class, the children are all EAL and I want them to experience the widest possible range of books. They loved it and gradually joined in with "Who's got my hairy toe?".
It then led to a discussion about what would you do if you found a hairy toe? Great for developing their English. The illustrations are fabulous and help to create a wonderfully scary athmosphere.

A bit too scary...
