Reviews

In this new series, the Hairy Bikers become the Hairy Dieters as they accept that years of over indulgence have taken their toll. But the boys are determined to still love their food and lose weight, which means confronting some truths about themselves and what they normally eat. Si and Dave are honest blokes, they accept, like the majority of the population, that they are overweight. But facing the stark reality of how much fat their bodies actually contain is tough. Coming to terms with the truth reawakens childhood memories and not a little emotional turmoil. With the support of their families and advice from weight-loss clinicians, Si and Dave take on the challenge to lose the lard. And they do it with their characteristic zest for life and food. The boys begin a new culinary adventure to reinvent the classic dishes they adore, making them big on flavour but low in calories. And recognising the power of group motivation, Si and Dave join forces with a band of similarly rotund foodies who help road test the boys' recipes whilst shedding the pounds themselves. With great tasting food and clever cooking as their priority, the Bikers allow the viewer intimate access to their own homes, turning their kitchens into food labs, bathrooms into confessionals and families into food critics. Serving up kitchen magic, personal revelation and a host of dishes that are delicious and still good for you, the Hairy Bikers begin to eat themselves slim in a bid to lose an amazing two-and-half stones in just over three months. This programme is full of wonderful tips on how to still lose weight whilst enjoying the taste of good food.

Watching the show on the tele inspired me to follow Dave and Si's example (and recipes) and lo and behold - 3 months down the line 45 pounds of lard have gone. I always knew that loosing weight is (in theory) simple: if less goes in than gets used you loose weight. However, what was lacking was the impetus to stick with it. Well, for me seeing my fellow fat lads, who alway were my heroes for embracing the "fat in food makes it taste better" credo, going for it and succeeding put me in the right frame of mind to continue with the weight loss. Buy the book, follow the delicious recipes, count your calories (there are nifty apps for that) and (hopefully) it will work for you too.

Usual story here....over 40, like our food, don't exercise too much, portions creep up and the next thing you know, waistline disappears and you are the chubby one round the pool! Tried weight watchers, slimming world, heart diet, ya de ya. Last a week with them all then get bored and slip into old ways. By chance, saw the end of the hairy bikers series with two slim blokes and thought, blimey? If those two porkers can do it with all the temptation they face then there's hope for us all! So, I bought the book, shopped for the extras like herbs n spices i dont normally use to stock up the kitchen cupboard and decided to live off the recipes for a few weeks and see how we got on. Three weeks in and Him indoors is down a stone and me, 9lb. The food is fantastic. I don't even think we've been too true to the portion sizes either, but we've eaten like kings n queens and feel healthy as ever. There's not much chance of slipping off the wagon because you don't feel you are on it, sweet n sour chicken, chilli, steak, chips (the best I've tasted) scrambled egg n smoked salmon breakfasts. I have recommended o friends and colleagues without hesitation. Save your money on slimming clubs and faddy diets, this has been life changing. Hats off to the Hairy Bikers. At last, gorgeous wholesome food that is good for you too. I can't wait for the next book!

Lost 6kg in 9 weeks - crumpets with forest fruit and yoghurt for breakfast is not something I would have thought of, but it is now a firm family favourite! Calorie counting becomes easy, makes you realise just how much you shoved into your body 'because you could'!

My husband and I watched the programme and he bought me the book for xmas.It has all the recipes from the tv series and other interesting info.I usually try to cook healthy meals but ,but the book has some nice recipes and tips.Because the lads did the weight loss bit my husband took notice and was interested. If I tried to give him advice about food and drink it would be ignored but he listened to the Hairy bikers.
