I bought this book when it was reprinted in 1988 and it has been an invaluable source of reference for me ever since. I have been playing guitar for 25 years and if you have spent any length of time at all playing the guitar you will know that you are never finished learning. My copy of the book is a little dated now in some sections but the main section 'Playing the Guitar' is referenced on a regular basis. It helps me to recall scales, check up on music theory and gives me material to practice.

I would recommend the book to anyone at any stage of learning to play the guitar.

This book is the most complete of it's kind. It has pictorial descriptions of theory as well as the fundamentals. This book was also used by Tom Morello the guitarist of the popular group Rage Against The Machine.

This book is THE BEST guitar publication available!
There is a great section on great/innovative guitarists.
Loads of information on great/innovative guitars (acoustic as well as electric).
But here is where this book has been invaluable to me since about 1983-4. It tells you how to set a guitar up; it teaches you about playing and playing styles by giving you the FACTS. Starting from your first strum through to scales and modes the teaching section of this book is superb! No pretence or patronising pontificating.
It also has the best chord dictionary ever printed and I would commend this book to every guitar player.
Beware - you will buy this book more than once! As a gift for others and because you will wear out your own copy!
