One Of The Masters 27 Nov 2003
I've played guitar for about 20 years or so and in that time gone through all the usual fads....neo-classical..shredding etc.

I'm not saying that I wouldnt do exactly the same again because you learn from everything you play but eventually you realise that there is only a handfull of true masters of the instrument, regardless of style, and Chet Atkins was/is truly one of them.

On the DVD Chet plays the pieces and then breaks them down and gives a full run through of them at slower speeds. The split screen is excellent and gives you a very detailed view of both hands. Also Included is a booklet of tab and on the disk is also a .pdf file of tab to print-out. Importantly, both the sound and picture quality are excellent throughout.

I think almost anyone at any level can pick something up from this DVD and Chet is very humble and makes me laugh several times.

What more can be said except if you play guitar, any style, then you really would be adding a wealth of knowledge to your playing by owning this DVD and learning from Chet.

This video is advertised as region one; however mine shipped as region 0. This is a must for any would be finger picker. Two words pretty much sum up this as a must buy for any guitar player, Chet Atkins. The split screen video show that with a lot of practice you be able to put your fingers into truly unimaginable positions that defy the human anatomy. The DVD states that the target audience is at the intermediate and advanced finger pickers, but as just a beginner, I would say it is definitely worth the money and then some.

Chet is so engaging and funny! 9 pieces played normally then explained by Chet. Including Mr Bojangles, Bye Bye Blackbird, Lover Come Back, Maybelle. (Have a look on YouTube where you can see an excerpt him play Mr Bojangles, or Mr Joe Bangles, as he calls it!). For intermediate+ Full and very accurate tabs in booklet. The booklet is a bit small and awkward but pdfs can also be downloaded. Great pieces, well worth learning - but it has taken me a long time to get to any level of proficiency, that might just be me, but the pieces are worth the effort. It really helps with Chet at your elbow to keep you right! You realise what a master he was.
