The AB guide to Music Theory Part 1 & Part 2 books and even his theory books 'Music in practice Grade1-5'.
I would definitely get this book & also Part 1 as well - but you may find that you already know all the things in Part 1 but there were a lot of words i didn't know in there.
I would definitely recommend his theory books (Music in Practice Grade 1 up to G5) I wouldnt get Grade 6-8 though - the authors of those are Peter Aston & Julian webb and the change of author really does show as the book lacks in so many areas and the things they fail to cover - which you must know for the exam - is astonishing!
If you're doing theory exams I would also recommend you get the 'Theory workbooks' and get past papers - they'll help you alot.
But back to these books - which me & my teacher refer to as the pink and blue book - are great. You should definitely get them.
But in getting this book (P2)it assumes you know all the things covered in the pink - part 1 book eg. the basic staff crotchets, bars, fermatas(pauses)etc. to the more advanced things like feminine endings, double phrasing, slurs, turns and trills etc..

This is a great book if you are taking ABRSM theory exams and need the basics extending a little more. Its easy to use and can also be used to refresh on things if you come across something in a piece your unsure of.

I am studying Music at uni and got this one and its pair...this one has been the most useful. The pink book contains all the simpler harmony and is better for refreshing your memory, whereas this comes with very good explanations of all the harmony that's been new to me this year, so it's perfect.

Have been going through this and Vol 1 for about two weeks now and have found them very useful. I wanted to take up keyboards again and decided to learn more theory. Some of Vol 2 is a little difficult, but if you go slowly and with patience, it's not too much work... Lots of samples from famous classical pieces are used, as you would expect, and the analysis is both challenging and interesting. At times I found the information a bit dry, but I've enjoyed reading large parts of both books too, and I don't even have my keyboard yet!

Even if you're not a student of music, going through these two, fairly short, volumes, is time well spent...

A great companion to the ABRSM work books for the music exams. The two part set, workbooks and past exam papers and answers make the basis of a good self-directed course to acheive the qualification. A good music teacher and refernce to other non-ABRSM texts adds icing to the learning of the theory.
