CD Description

Based on a 1930 s American radio show, created by George W. Trindle, and Fred Striker, the character of Britt Reid, who was a fictitious newspaper owner who moonlighted as The Green Hornet , and was a savior of the people during the post-depression period. The character was revived in the 1960 s for a not altogether entirely successful television programme. It gave life to a young Bruce Lee as Kato, while the lead was played by Van Williams. Billy May was hired to do the music, which he adapted from the show s original theme of Rimsky Korsakov s Flight of the Bumble Bee . This special re-edition by Harkit has all May s original music, plus various alternate versions including the hit Al Hirt single. What does make this extra-special is the inclusion of a previously un-broadcast episode of Green Hornet as well as an exciting excerpt from the original radio show! Literally packed with rare on and off the TV-set stills, the booklet by Martin Gainsford is insightful and highly informative. A special 60 minute edition well worth owning!

It says Original TV Series not film, this has been released as a Billy May CD for collectors of this mans unique talent, arranger for Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Bing Crosby,I could carry on..Now Billy has passed away we his followers are enjoying a glut of his great recordings....Suggest you read whats on a CD before you purchase it!!

That they released THIS and not the soundtrack of the 2011 film! What's their problem? The movie had a great soundtrack!

This may be advertised as the original soundtrack, but it isn't. You may hear familiar themes in the music here and there, but this is more like a lounge music version of what you heard on the TV show. Really disappointing.

I wasn't as disappointed as the other reviewer. I thought the music was fun, although I agree it's likely not the *actual* soundtrack from the series (other than the "Main Title" which I think is the real deal). In the 60's a lot of music for TV shows was not recorded in stereo, so they often re-recorded the music in order to release it as an album. That's what this sounds like it probably was. But, until someone digs through the 20th Century Fox archives and pulls up the original tapes and releases those, this is likely as close as you'll get. I would have given this 4 stars but the "bonus" material was of no interest to me, and the sound quality is not very good on any of it.

Other reviewers have stated that this is not an original soundtrack of the tv series. As the owner and frequent viewer of the show on dvd, I can refute that claim. However, it is not the best selections of tracks from the show. Instead you are treated to tunes such as the "party music" from "Corpse of the Year" and the absolute horrible version of the theme track performed by some unknown which also happens to be the first song on the cd. Not to mention a great many songs are not from the original soundtrack.
Why not include the Billy May jazzy mood music from different scenes when the Black Beauty is stalking a perp. Prepping her rockets to take out a bulldozer, etc. There was so much great background music on the show that was simply ignored on this release. Probably the best besides the original Billy May / Al Hirt themes would be the "scanner" track.
Oh well, this is probably the only release we'll ever get so it's better than nothing.
