Product Description

<p align=center>Go green and get gorgeous

The promise of beauty is as close as the drugstore aisle—shampoo that gives your hair more body, lotions that smooth away wrinkles, makeup that makes your skin look flawless, and potions that take it all off again. But while conventional products say they'll make you more beautiful, they contain toxins and preservatives that are both bad for the environment and bad for your body—including synthetic fragrances, petrochemicals, and even formaldehyde. In the end, they damage your natural vitality and good looks.

Fortunately, fashion writer, nutritionist, and beauty maven Julie Gabriel helps you find the true path to natural, healthy, green beauty. She helps you decipher labels on every cosmetic product you pick up and avoid toxic and damaging chemicals with her detailed Toxic Ingredients List. You'll learn valuable tips on what your skin really needs to be healthy, glowing, and youthful.

Julie goes one-step further—and shows you how to make your own beauty products that feed your skin, save your bank account, and are healthy for your body and the environment, such as:

• Cleansing creams and oils • toners • facials • under eye circle remedies • anti-aging serums • lip balms • scrubs • exfoliators • clay and cleansing masks
• moisturizers • acne treatments • makeup remover • teeth whiteners • shampoos, conditioners • fragrances • sun protection • bug repellants • baby products • and much more!

With her friendly, thorough, and helpful advice; fabulous beauty recipes; product recommendations and ratings; Toxic Ingredients List; and a complete appendix of online resources, Julie Gabriel gives you all the information you need to go green without going broke and become a more natural, healthy, and beautiful you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative - with great recipes! 30 April 2009
By TracS
Format:Paperback
This is a fantastic book - combines informative & very in depth information about what to avoid in cosmetics, beauty & body care products; there's a reference section where you can look up ingredients to check out how safe they are (by no mean an exhaustive list); it recommends a few off the shelf products BUT the main attraction to me was the huge section of DIY recipes.

Many natural or green books have featured recipes before, but in my experience they've been for nothing more exciting than bath oils or an oil/salt body scrub! This amazing book covers everything from top to toe - hair volumisers, sunscreen, self tanner, cuticle softner, all of which can be made at home with a few ingredients - a fantastic idea, considering the price tags on some natural beauty products. There are even recipes inspired by not-so-green cult items (such as Eve Lom cleansing balm) but without the chemical nasties or hefty price tag, along with really clear step by step instructions.

This book is jam packed full of interesting & useful information and is great value for money in my opinion; I can see mself using the recipe section time & time again. Would recommend this book wholeheartedly to anyone who is interested in saving money on beauty products, not just those who want to go 'green'.

The only slight niggle (and my reason for awarding 4 rather than 5 stars) is the 'where to buy' section at the back is very much targeted at readers in the USA; but an excellent purchase all the same.

I became fascinated with natural products after using a natural shampoo that revolutionised my hair. I bought this book because it doesn't just tell you what you should be using - it also tells you why you shouldn't use many of the chemicals that are in 90% of our cosmetics and toiletries. It made a very interesting read and has convinced me that I should pay much more attention to what is going onto my skin as it all ends up absorbed into the body.
The recipes are excellent and I like the fact that it recommends ready made products, because it is hard work making everything yourself. I've tried out many of the suggested products and find them mostly fantastic.
My only slight complaint (and, as with the other reviewer, the reason I haven't given it 5 stars) is that it is an american book and therefore gives almost totally american stores in the "Where to buy" section. Not all the ingredients are easy to lay your hands on - so an edition with british references would make this book impossible to beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know about cosmetics 7 Mar 2011
By kedulis
Format:Paperback
This book totally changed my beauty-rituals and helped to understand what I want to put on my face and in my body in general, and how to help the sking to regenerate and prosper itself, instead of depending on chemicals!
Besides the very scientific side and good explanations of the industry and ingredients, it gives you very down-to-earth advices, diy tips and also good websites for further reading and for green cosmetics shopping.
I ordered and read it nearly a year ago, but I still flip through once in a while for some beauty advice. Definitely this one is a keeper!!

I've been sort of green for a year but this book really opened my eyes to how committed i want to be to avoid so much chemical mess! Really inspiring, informative and helpful so those, like me, have been struggling with the full conversion- food and beauty. It really gave me back my focus and advanced my understanding. Great book!

this book made me think about all the things in your skincare products i never even bothered to look at the ingrediants before but i do now i changed all my skincare, hair care etc to more natural organic products at first i thought it would be more expensive but its not as i am buying better quality products that work instead of buying something that doesnt work then buying something else. my skin as been really bad for years and its now starting to get much better i dont even have to use lots of makeup every day like i used to. this is a great book.
