A real good old rocking jazz recording. Track 20 I'll do the same thing for you, is a record Sir Jimmy used to play a lot round about 1960.Takes us back to the good old days at Leeds Mecca.

The recording career of Johnny Otis covers several decades. This cd contains the best recordings for Capitol, to which the Johnny Otis Show was signed from 1957 to 1959. The most well known in the UK are "Ma He's Making Eyes At Me" (no 2 in 1957), "Bye Bye Baby" (no 20 in 1958), "What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For?" (which version Emile Ford copied and took to no 1 in 1959), and "Willie And The Hand Jive" (subsequently made popular by Cliff Richard). The 26 tracks are unfortunately not in recording date order, but this is not so important when the whole cd covers a comparatively short time-span, just over 2 years. Johnny Otis is not only a singer (as you can see from the track-listing he sings lead on 13 tracks and duets on 3), leader, and entrepreneur, he is also a prolific songwriter, 20 of these tracks being written or part written by him. Finally I must applaud the interesting 16 page booklet accompanying the cd.

Amongst my favorite rockin' songs are,"SHAKE IT LUCY BABY","BYE BYE BABY","GOOD GOLLY","TELEPHONE BABY",.
In 1960/1961 CLIFF RICHARD AND THE SHADOWS would record at least two of Johnny Otis's classics,as single "B" sides,and these were,"WILLIE AND THE HAND JIVE",and,"MUMBLIN' MOSIE",.
The sixteen page booklet reveals all about Otis and his rockin' orchestra,plus photos.
