5.0 out of 5 stars Gladys at the peak of her career 31 May 2003
By Peter Durward Harris #1 HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
While Gladys recorded some excellent music for various other record labels, particularly for Motown, she will be best remembered for her music of the mid-seventies with Buddha. This British budget compilation is drawn exclusively from the Buddha vaults.
The chart history of the group is confusing, not least because some records charted in America but not Britain when originally released, but charted in Britain when reissued. However, all the big hits in both countries are included here.
Midnight train to Georgia, I've got to use me imagination, Best thing that ever happened to me, Baby don't change your mind and the medley Try to remember / The way we were - each and every one of these are classics. Other great songs include So sad the song (mournful but lovely), Come back and finish what you started and Part time love. Another fine song, On and on, written and produced by Curtis Mayfield, featured in the soundtrack of Claudine.
This is a very strong collection of the best music from Gladys Knight's most successful years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feeling Glad All Over 9 Sep 2002
Format:Audio CD
On the whole, I don't think Gladys and the boys' work at Buddha is quite as brilliant as the best of their Motown material ('I Wish it Would Rain', 'Didn't You Know', 'Neither One of Us', 'All I Need is Time', etc.), but this disc still features some amazing songs. The only track I'm really not keen on is 'The One and Only', with that ridiculous guitar. But the others are all sheer soul classics, from the tearful balladry of 'Best Thing That Ever Happened' to the jaunty sing-along-a-heartbreak of 'Baby Don't Change Your Mind'. Personal favourite though has to be 'It's a Better Than Good Time': Gladys as disco diva! Fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the Buddha years... 25 July 2001
Format:Audio CD
After leaving Motown in the early 70's Gladys signed up with the Buddha label and the rest is history as they say. At Motown she was criminally underrated but the Buddha crew hooked her up with some great songwriters and producers. 14 of these track broke into the UK top 20 and all her 70's classics are here : Midnight Train to Georgia, Got to use my imagination etc... If you dig soul music this should already be in your collection so get it!

Truly fantastic compilation of one of the best female singers of all time. It's not fair that one lady has so much soul. Living legend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Walk down Memory Lane 24 Jan 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Bought this for my sister for Christmas. She emigrated to Jamaica 22 years ago - it brought tears to her eyes as we used to listen to it every Christmas 30 years ago. A wonderful bit of nostalgia.
