5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin 7 Jun 2011
By Baggsby
Format:Paperback
This is a brilliant book for anyone who has a camera and wants to improve their photography without getting bogged down in boring technicalities. It's got advice on everything from buying a camera and accessories to selling your photographs. And it's written in a humorous style which makes it fun to read. What's more the advice is illustrated with masses of photographs, most of them taken by the author himself. I think there's something in here for everyone. A great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Photography for Dummies 22 May 2011
Format:Paperback
Alistair Scott's book is one that was easy to read for a dummy like me--no technical jargon, lots of photos to illustrate the points he makes, the quick tips in frames very helpful. It was easy on the eyes as well because of simple, clear formatting. It helped me use my new camera, a Lumix Panasonic DMCTZ6, to fuller capacity. I'm a person who tends not to read the manual that comes with the camera, using an approach that is basically, 'I can do this, I've already had cameras, I'll just try this and see what happens.'

What was outstanding for me:

- down-to-earth writing that was also engaging
- uncluttered formatting
- visual illustrations of what was explained
- suggestions for improvements that cost nothing (the string tripod)
- chapter summaries
- 'quick tips' in frames
- suggestions I would never think of, like: Don't fill your memory card completely full. And Alistair Scott tells you why.

The underconfident photographer that I am needed a book like this!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Guide to Photography 5 Oct 2012
By Dave
Format:Paperback
What a brilliant book packed with easy yet simple to use tips and ideas that have transformed my photos. If only I had read something like this book 50 odd years ago when I was given my first camera. We have a trip to India soon and this book will be in my back pack. Can,t wait! Thanks Alistar.
