I've been following the career of Logan for a few years now, and have been privileged to see them live in both 2007 and 2008, once during the own UK tour and then again as support acts for Alter Bridge.
It's clear to me that these five guys are all superb musicians, even listening to their rare first album 'First Leaf Fallen' you release this band has serious potential.
I find it hard therefore that they still find themselves without a major record label, although that surely can't last much longer.
'The Great Unknown' contains a handful of new tracks, along with slightly different versions of old favourites 'When I Get Down,' 'Hallowed Ground' and 'Lost & Found.' Working with producer Keith Olsen has certainly helped the band polish their distinct rock sound, Kenny Collins has that rock vocal growl down to a tee and each song ticks all those hard rock clichés, moody guitar solos, pounding drums and of course the odd power ballad or two.
It's on those ballads that Logan shines the most, especially 'Save Me' which could easily be the next single.
If there's perhaps one criticism of Logan it's that all their songs sound essentially the same, there's no real variety. It's all `quiet verse loud chorus' scenario over and over, but that's being really picky to be honest.
Overall, 'The Great Unknown' is a rather clever name for this record.
I soon expect Logan to become 'The Great Known.'
Miss this album at your peril.
