Book Description

26 April 2010 Great Poets
Hollywood actor Michael Sheen reads one of the most famous poems in the English language, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, in this collection, which is part of the Naxos AudioBooks The Great Poets series. Radical and daring, Coleridge worked with Wordsworth to transform poetry and bring it closer to the people. Original, atmospheric and pensive, the power of Coleridges plain-spoken poetry inspired the tradition of Romantic poetry that sprung up in his wake. This popular anthology also contains Coleridges other major narrative poem Christabel, as well as Kubla Khan, Love, Frost at Midnight and The Lime-Tree Bower My Prison.

1.0 out of 5 stars Playing Hamlet with Poetry 24 Oct 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
These are some of the worst and most irritating poetry readings I have ever heard. The reader turns it from a poem into a dramatic declamation. The nature of the poems may call for a measure of dramatic inflection but do not forget these are supposed to be readings of poems not monologues at the RSC.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Great Poets: Samuel Taylor Coleridge. 28 Feb 2013
By Virginia W. Strong - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
These were really great readings of Coleridge's poems. I especially liked the Ancient Marnier. Excellent actors did the readings although some of them have a very low sounding voice while made it hard to understand because of my hearing loss, which is not the publisher's fault. Listening to professional readers is the very best way to develop poetry appreciation.
