5.0 out of 5 stars If only all cats could talk ... 13 Nov 2007
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
... though obviously not via hideous, nefarious means as in this fabulous book. If only all children's - no, scratch that, even ADULT - books had this much adventure, excitement and intelligence. Witty, gripping, wonderfully paced, with characters you care about and plenty of twists and turns, this is a fantastic debut and we can only hope Ms Haynes is already labouring on a sequel. May I suggest Millie's first trip to Brussel's to visit Max - adventures ahoy. Loved it. Couldn't recommend it more highly if I tried.

Oh, and by the way, I'm 36.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and serious at the same time. 2 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
This book manages to tackle grown-up themes of animal testing, financial difficulties through redundancy, single parenthood and "doing what's right" in an exciting "Blyton for the 22nd Century" style, that manages to be both easy to read for the young, but not patronising either. Some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, some poignant, and believable characters that are easy to relate to - a cynical talking cat, a young, strong-willed heroine and a supporting cast of moral, intelligent kids, and grown-ups both caring and "baddies". It would make a great film! One for young teenagers who are beginning to be more aware of the moral issues of the world around them, to get them thinking about the issues that grown-ups have to deal with every day - in short, a book for the young adult - a transition between books for kids and books for adults that I'm sure the adults will enjoy reading too! I know I did...

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny on page and stage 11 Dec 2007
By Helen
Format:Paperback
I've seen Natalie Haynes perform as a stand-up comedian, so thought I would give her book a go as well. What a delight to find a comedian who can actually write... This is definitely great for children - although don't be surprised if they finish the book and start waving a placard outside the nearest animal-testing laboratory.
