Book Description

Highcock's Oscillating Apparatus has harnessed steam to cure everything from hearing loss to "female complaints." That's what two Scholar-Priests of the god Eddin hope. The old lechers also hope to watch black-haired beauty Allis and lusciously plump Anda--two priestesses of Neya the Beloved--try its vibratory motion on one another. But Allis and Anda choose young Scholar Jep Burman to assist in the experiment instead, to give him a sexual education he'll never forget.

2.0 out of 5 stars didn't do it for me 10 Dec. 2013

The headline says it all. Steampunk alternative science type thing, with sex, but the sex didn't do it for me so. Kind of a fun, cheeky idea but ... meh!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intriguing Introduction to a New World 24 Sept. 2011
By Serena Kyle - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
You might have heard of the oscillation machines used by doctors during the Victorian era to relieve 'female hysteria'? Huge clunky machines known as 'manipulators' (now known as vibrators) were used by doctors on 'hysterical' women in an attempt to calm them and solve innumerable ailments. (No doubt, doctors became suddenly more popular during the Victorian era.)

The author takes this oddity from our history and plants it into a world of priests and priestesses, where the priests seem to want to profit from the machine, and the priestesses are only too happy to be experimented on.

The truth is famously stranger than fiction, and in this case, taking a strange occurrence from our own history and putting it into a fictional world has created an excellent starting point for an intriguing novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely 16 May 2011

Consider this the literary equivalent of a really good chocolate chip cookie. Warm, gooey, decadent, and not nearly large enough. Yum!

A very...arousing...look at a solution to "feminine derangement", as it were. Some friends from The Intimate History of the Greater Kingdom, as well as new folk. Well written and amusing, and well worth the read. I shall be reading this over and over.

Wow! What a great read!! It totally stands alone but also really made me want to know more about the world, the characters and the story...and not just because of my love for oscillating devices, either!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and was saddened when it ended. The story is intended for a mature audience, and is very stimulating. I enjoy Meilin Miranda's writing style and look forward to reading more of her writings. I highly recommend this book and this author.
