Product Description

An experimental rafting expedition, an FBI manhunt for a delusional killer, and the worst storm in decades collide in the remote mountain wilderness...and then THEY come out.

"'Deliverance' with fangs." Author's DRM-free and preferred edition of 2007 thriller They Hunger

Bowie Whitlock and a team of celebrity athletes is commissioned to test two experimental rafts in the rugged Unegama Wilderness Gorge in the remote Appalachian Mountains, considered the most dangerous whitewater rapids in the eastern United States. Photographer Dove Krueger, Bowie's occasional lover, is there to document the journey. The expedition is tense from the start as jealousy, romance, and money are riding on the mission's success.

FBI agent Jim Castle and his partner are in the gorge looking for Ace Goodall, a deranged abortion clinic bomber. Ace, accompanied by a fragile young woman, is having visions that guide his murderous behavior. A trip-wire around his camp detonates a rigged explosive, tearing apart part of a cliff wall and exposing a long-hidden vampire species to the world.

The race is on as dark storm clouds gather, the river is swollen, and Ace hijacks the rafting expedition to make his escape. But the bloodthirsty creatures swooping down from the high cliffs have been too long without prey.

Ace has one more bomb.
God is talking to him.
It's raining again, and his young companion is pregnant.
And killing isn't what it used to be, because the dead no longer stay dead.

"Like Stephen King, he knows how to summon serious scares. Buy everything he writes. This guy's the real deal."-- Bentley Little, The Disappearance

"Always surprises and always entertains."-- Jonathan Maberry, Patient Zero

"Keep both hands on your pants, because Nicholson is about to scare them off."-- J.A. Konrath / Jack Kilborn, Origin and Draculas

"This is one author who aims for the kill and never misses."- Jeremy Robinson, Instinct

Scared out of my wits! Loved it! Very unexpected tale. Brilliant descriptions of people, things, places. I could really see the gorge and the people and loved the unpredictable nature of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Characters and Real Vampires 22 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ace Goodall hears God, and the Almighty supports the crimes he has committed against abortion clinics ripping life from the womb. Accompanied by a young woman he picked up along his travels, Ace is now on the run through the Unegama Wilderness Gorge in the remote Appalachian Mountains, chased by FBI agent Jim Castle and his partner. But God is with Ace, and that means everything will work out all right. Even when the bobby-trap bomb he rigs up around his camp is detonated by Castle and a hole is blown in the mountain, everything will be all right--because, Ace believes, the creatures that escape are sent to aid his cause.

Bowie Whitlock thought all he'd have to deal with while testing two experimental rafts on the gorge rapids would be the inflated egos of the celebrity athletes and his part-time lover, who are part of his team. He didn't count on stumbling across an injured FBI agent carrying a gun. Nor did he expect a meeting with a deranged bomber on the Bureau's most wanted list. The last thing he expected was vampires.

The Gorge, by Scott Nicholson, is a fast-paced read filled with characters that feel as real as the person sitting next to you. When the reader joins Ace as he makes his bid for freedom, it's a no-brainer that we believe in what he does in the name of justice. When we're thrust into the mid of FBI Agent Castle we feel a single-minded determination to stop Ace Goodall before he can kill any more innocent people. And when we're placed in the raft alongside Bowie Whitlock the frustration with his companions is as real to us as it is to him. And that's one of the beauties of this book: the life these characters have and the way they become real people. Fiction is no longer a factor.
