Product Description

Goon but not forgotten. From 1952 to 1960 the Goons ruled the airwaves, the most celebrated and influential clowns in the history of radio.

GO ON and savour some of the special guests as Dick Emery, Kenneth Connor, Graham Stark, and George Chisholm get in on the Goonery. Follow their fortunes as they trace the dreaded Spon, go bagpiping playing in the South Pole, march off to war ("Name your weapon", "I name my weapon Basil"), and attempt to find a cure for Neddie's poverty stricken wallet.

Yes, folks, it's the all-leather Goon Show, another quartet of cult comedy classics from those wireless wizards Peter Sellars, Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe and friends.

They've found an apple. Their search is no longer fruitless.

This is two hours of Old Radio Shows broadcast some 40 years ago that is still some of the best and strangest comedy you've ever hear on CD, The Goon Shows.

If you've never heard the Goons before, you're in for a treat. Imagine a cross between Monty Python (who took influences from the goons, not the other way round) and Drop the Dead Donkey and your getting closer.

Recorded back in 1958-59, The Goons were the zaniest craziest bunch on the radio, a huge sensation through out Britain. At the time they were the cutting edge, kings of comedy, rude, naughty but always funny.

On this CD: "Spon," "The Curse of Frankenstein," "Who is Pink Oboe," and "The 50 Pound Cure,"

In most of these episodes some guest stars add an extra character to the normal threesome. Unfortunately some of the guests are there because the original cast members are not: The Spon episode is missing the fantastic Harry Secombe, and instead Dick Emery is taking his place. In "Who is Pink Oboe" Kenneth Connor, Valentine Dyall, Graham Stark, Jack Train and John Snagge replace Peter Sellers. (takes a lot to replace a Sellers).

Spon: Spon breaks out across the country. Emery-type-Seagoon is on the hunt for Spon before it strikes again.

The Curse of Frankenstein: A fortune in money to first person to travel to the North Pole and play the bagpipes. But no one can play the bagpipes, no ones that fat. Or are they?

Who is Pink Oboe: The search for Pink Oboe the famous spy. Neddy's, reluctantly, sent into Germany to retrieve the plans for the British "Union Jack" before the Germans copy it!

The £50 Cure: One of the best cures for poor-ness, £50 in your pocket. Moriarty suffers severely from this strange affliction in this episode.

A good collect of shows, shame about the missing regulars on some episodes but still worth a listen. And still funny.
