Book Description

6 Jun 2011 BBC Audio
This title presents four more classic episodes starring Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and Spike Milligan. More surreal clowning from one of the greatest comedy teams on radio. Goon but not forgotten! In these episodes, Neddie attempts to swim across the Regent's Park Canal with the help of a bottle of green liquid, the Russians force a satellite into the ionosphere (filthy swines!), two crooks insure Neddie's life for ten thousand pounds and postman Neddie gets stolen. This title features: "The Great Regent's Park Swim" - Series 8, Episode 4 (21st October 1957); "The Space Age" - Series 8, Episode 6 (4th November 1957); "The Policy" - Series 8 and Episode 9 (25th November 1957); and, "The Stolen Postman" - Series 8, Episode 11 (9th December 1957). Please note: some of the humour on this recording reflects the era in which it was first broadcast, and due to the age of the source material, the sound quality may vary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Goon comedy 28 April 2011
Format:Audio CD
Lovingly restored by Ted Kendall, these four episodes from 1957 have never before been released and are a "must have" for Goonatics worldwide.

In The Great Regent's Park Swim, listeners will be enthralled by the fascinating story of the discovery of swimming by Professors Eidelburger and Yakamoto, and the sound of a river being driven away by the Chinese. When Neddie does not sink after drinking a bottle of green liquid, Grytpype and Moriarty quicky patent the invention as 'swimming'. What's the betting that the end of the day is signalled by Little Jim's catchphrase... "he's fallen in the water!"?

In The Space Age, Neddie is launched into space as the first human satellite - he didn't really want to go, but it was a convenient way of eluding the Military Police who had been searching for him since he deserted in World War I. Find out what happens when they finally catch up with him, four hundred and ninety-two miles above the earth. And why was he wearing no clothes?

In The Policy, Neddie is persuaded to purchase £10,000 of life insurance, complete with an interesting little booklet entitled "One hundred easy ways to get deceased". Grytpype and Moriarty quickly see the potential of making a few bob... Will they?

In The Stolen Postman, Neddie is postman-knapped (he's no longer a kid,) and transported into the harem of the Sultan of Dhurtistan in a crate marked "Human sacrifice for exploding ceremony". When he realises his fate, Neddie has to think how to get out without being exploded. The moral of the story is of course, beware of thinking, because thinking is... all in the mind, you know.

5.0 out of 5 stars The lunacy continues.......(thankfully) 6 July 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ah; more Goonery from the fab three. Another quartet of inspired madness from the pen (where he can be seen every afternoon at 2) of the one and only Spike Milligan. The four tales make as much sense as any other in the series and have an even greater relevance for todays world of doom, gloom and coalitions!.

If you are a Goon fan already, you won't need me to tell you to get your copies asap, but if you are new to the Goons then this is as good a place to start as any.

Much needed and please keep 'em coming!!

Count Jim "Strains Supreme" Moriarty, Winner of the Golden Richard and the only man to have shot a telephone directory in flight.

(p.s.......should be 10 stars!!!!)
