What is it about The Goons that stands the test of time? Is it their characters and voices? How about the script? Maybe it's the storyline? Then it could be the simplicity of it all?
Not any one of these but all of them, plus an amazing connection between the three 'goons' themselves. Spike with his script and lunacy (in a nice way), Sellers with his constant laughing and asides and of course Neddy Seagoon as the 'hero', all gel together like a wonderful chemical reaction. The four episodes are such fun and can be listened to again and again - great on a long journey in the car.
From the very first time I heard The Goons on the radio I was hooked, I just couldn't get enough. Like so many others, I would talk to my friends in Bluebottle or Eccles speak and all who heard knew exactly what we were doing. The Goons is more an institution than just a comedy series.
If you like daft, then The Goons is most definitely for you.
Brilliant.
