Product Description

Product Description

Linda Davis's local fabric shop is a place where women gather to share
their creations: wedding quilts, baby quilts, memorial quilts, each
bound tight with dreams, hopes and yearnings.

Now, as her only child
readies for college, Linda is torn between excitement for Molly and
heartache for herself. Who will she be when she is no longer needed in
her role as mom?

As mother and daughter embark on a cross-country
road trip to move Molly into her dorm, Linda pieces together the scraps
that make up Molly's young life--the hem of a christening gown, a snippet
from a Halloween costume. And in the stitching of each bit of fabric,
Linda discovers that the memories of a shared journey can come together
in a way that will keep them both warm in the years to come....

More About the Author

I like to believe I am the person my dogs think I am.

I phone my parents every day, as they are elderly and adorable, and they read me stories every day of my freakishly normal childhood. I was a writer before I learned to read, by creating scribbles on paper and dictating the stories to my saintly mother. You can see examples here:

Untold eons later, I still read and write everyday and I've gotten very good at it. I live in a ridiculously gorgeous place in the world--an island in Puget Sound, Washington where we have a lot of the same flowers you grow in the UK. But bigger slugs. Much bigger slugs.

I have lots more to tell you, so please join me on Facebook and check out pictures of my dogs and tell me what's on your mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real rites of passage story 11 April 2014

I bought this book because I quilt. I really enjoyed it. I don't have a daughter but this helped me understand just how my mother felt and the things that she went through when they drove me down to college. It is well written and gave me a tear on more than one occasion.

I normally enjoy books by this author, but have to say on this occasion, it did not live upto my expectations. To be honest I got bored with the story line and couldn't wait to finish it (for the wrong reasons).

5.0 out of 5 stars Good advice wrapped up in quilt! 27 Mar 2014

Susan Wiggs is skilled at making me, the reader, look afresh at myself. I felt every emotion that this mother and daughter felt on their journey. All but one of my children have moved on into their separate lives, and finally my disabled daughter will soon be leaving our family home. On the very day this decision was made I read The Goodbye Quilt. On every page was an example of my thoughts and emotions, all very cleverly put into perspective by the author. I look forward to reading more of her books.
