Whether you're putting together an itinerary for a garden touring day or holiday, or are seeking less well known gardens of quality close to home, this guide fits the bill perfectly.

Arranged mainly by county, there are over 1,250 gardens to explore in Britain, Ireland and the Channel Islands. The expected ones are there, such as those owned by the National Trust but there are other gems waiting to be sought out, such as the best of the NGS regulars or others open by appointment only. The best parks and green spaces also get a look-in, giving a much more rounded view than usual of garden guides available.

Each one has its own 'thumbnail sketch' showing the most notable features and the best time to go. Full contact and website details are given should you need to find out more. Directions to each garden, a price guide and opening hours are given (though beware - the latter may have changed since publication, so probably best to check beforehand). Icons indicating what facilities, such as if refreshments are available, complete the picture.

As good as ever. Essential for planning garden visits, as long as you have the yellow book as well of course.
