This is the 4th Guide I have purchased and, like most directories e.g. Thompson, Yellow Pages etc., has become thinner with each new edition, why? - probably the Internet. Much of the information has simply been reprinted from earlier years e.g. the various glossaries, and the list of contributors is out-of-date. I am listed as a contributor yet have not submitted a review for almost 10 years! The number of recommended restaurants per county is low - just 2 for the whole of Cambs and even many districts of London are poorly represented. Is this because the standards of curry houses are deteriorating or (more likely) that people cannot be bothered to submit reviews to this Guide? Personally I believe it is easier and quicker to obtain restaurant reviews via numerous websites rather than purchase this Guide so wonder sadly whether it has a future and a purpose. Pity really as when first published I eagerly awaited each new edition as it was almost unique and restaurants were proud to be included. Nowadays virtually every Indian restaurant claims to be "award winning" or "voted best in the area" - I wonder just how many of these accolades are genuine.
