Book Description

The Artifact Competition is over. Jav Holson has won the Kaiser Bones, and just in time, too, as invaders arrive to assault the Root Palace. Somehow, these Gun Golems are the perfect foil for Shades, exacting a terrible toll on the Empire in an embarrassingly short time. Using the Eighteen Heavenly Claws and backed by the Kaiser Bones, Jav quickly proves his worth, dispatching a number of Gun Golems himself--an impressive feat considering the invaders' origins and purpose.

The Shades rally to meet the Gun Golems' onslaught, but success brings no respite. With the Root Palace in transit between star systems and cut off from the rest of the Empire, a series of impossible crimes further rocks the Palace and threatens the Empire's future. On an unalterable course, six months from planetfall, Shades and Artifact Competition finalists are being picked off one by one by an unknown force that stalks the Palace, deadly and unseen. Is there a traitor in their midst? Or have they picked up some malevolent passenger? No one knows, but trust is a luxury and nobody is above suspicion.

Alone, Jav can do nothing but support his fellows, particularly his friend, Ren Fauer, the newly appointed Director of Imperial Police, and be ready to pit his mastery of the Eighteen Heavenly Claws against whatever it is hiding in the Palace shadows--but will it be enough?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Continuation 10 Oct. 2011

"The Gun Golems" picks up where "The Artifact Competition" left us, and takes us so much further. The fight sequences are, once again, extremely well written, and we learn more about the main characters and their motivations. The author adds elements like suspense and mystery into the mix this time around that makes this a fast paced and extremely enjoyable read. It was hard for me to put down and I can hardly wait for the next installment in this fantastic series.

Continues on from The Artifact Competition, and delves you deeper into the workings of the Viscain Empire, and their newfound enemy, the Gun Golems. Very well written and I simply cannot wait for more!
5.0 out of 5 stars And it just gets better! 29 Aug. 2012

Picks up right where The Artifact Competition left off.

The series just gets better. Where The Artifact Competition was more action, this book goes deep into the story and the characters. Telling you more about Jav Holson and who he is. We also find out more about the Viscain Empire which helps in understanding the story.

Perfect continuation to part 1 and just cant wait for the next installment.
5.0 out of 5 stars The saga continues with the Gun Golems! 3 Jun. 2012

After finishing Approaching Infinity, I purchased this right away and was glad I could start reading this a few seconds after I made the purchase. I don't want to give out any spoilers but I was left wanting to read more about Jav Holson. The first book was about Jav's training but this is where his abilities are tested. You learn more about the characters from the last book, which is great because you get to know them better. Since I described the last book as kung-fu in space, I would say this book is a battle enshrouded in mystery. I really enjoyed this book as I did the first one, and I can't wait for the continuation.
