Product Description

"The Gold's Gym Training Encyclopedia is the best book of its kind. I wish I'd had this book when I began bodybuilding. It would have saved me two or three years of wasted effort." -- Samir Bannout, Mr Olympia 1983 Gold's Gym--the most trusted and best-known bodybuilding emporium in the world--presents the first encyclopedia of bodybuilding and weight-training exercises and routines ever assembled. The Gold's Gym Training Encyclopedia details the full spectrum of resistance exercises available--body part by body part, technique by technique. Featured are more than 300 proven exercises for all parts of the body, using free weights as well as Nautilus and Universal machines. Each exercise is clearly described and is illustrated by champion bodybuilders only, who in addition have contributed 150 of their best training programs. Such top stars include Scott Wilson, Carla Dunlap, Mohamed Makkawy, Tom Platz, Casey Viator, Tim Belknap, Rachel McLish, Mike Christian, Charles Glass, Inger Zetterqvist, Sue Ann McKean, Andreas Cahling, Rich Valente, Boyer Coe, Samir Bannout, and Julie McNew. Peter Grymkowski has won a number of bodybuilding titles, including IFBB Mr. World and Mr. America (heavyweight). He, Edward Connors, and Tim Kimber are co-owners of Gold's Gym Enterprises, Inc. Bill Reynolds is the author of scores of articles and books on weight training and bodybuilding, including The Gold's Gym Book of Bodybuilding, Weight Training for Beginners, and Bodybuilding for Beginners, all published by Contemporary.

Superb ! 2 Jan 2004
Format:Paperback
Although this book has a few years under it's weight belt now, this is still loads of great techniques and a mass of different variations for each muscle group that I hadn't seen before. Each exercise is well explained and the routines laid out at the end of each chapter were interesting and gave you some idea of how to start putting your own together. Definitely buy if you have started a routine and are now getting a little bit bored of it and want to start something new.

As someone who has always played sports and liked to weight train for enjoyment, I found this book to be very helpfull. For anyone like me, who has been around gyms for years, knows the basic techniques but has got a bit bored of the same old excercises - THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU! It breaks down the body parts and has multiple excerises with descriptions and start and finish photos. It then has exercise variations and informative training routines of past body builders, giving a good guide to what you need to train and how often. If like me you only have time to train 3 times a week, it will give good routine variations so you don't get bored. An excellent buy!

this book was written 20 years ago, and as such is out of date. contains most of the exercises that you will come across in other training books, but also contains moves that make you cringe- stiff leg deadlift and the photos show people arching their lower back and showing bad form- asking for trouble, last but not least this dosen't include any ref to diet, stretching or risks involved in any of the lifts. The new rules of lifting by lou schuler or the mens health gym bible by michael mejia are more up to the minute, but as we all know no book holds all the answers...
