I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and it opened my eyes to what goes on inside No. 10. I could feel empathy for the spouses and my preconceived opinions of them soon altered. It begins in the 1950's and goes through the spouses of all the Prime Ministers from Anthony Eden to John Major. You get a glimpse of the crises they had to face and how they coped with them as seen through the eyes of their spouses, who found themselves "Thrust into the limelight" to do a job without any training, without any pay and without any sets of rules. Each section is rounded off by finding out how the couples coped once they left No. 10.
